Re: Nursing time too short?

My son is a short nurser too. He's on both breasts each feeding, but spends less than 5 min on each and he empties me out. Just very efficient.

If she's fussy waiting for letdown, maybe try (I know this sounds weird, but I have to do this to get my pump to work) pinching your nipples to get the milk flowing before you let her latch? Usually takes me maybe 10 seconds of "milking" to get letdown.

For the fidgetting, have you thought about getting a nursing necklace? I hear those work wonders - may have to get one myself since DS is getting to the stage where he needs to keep his hands busy while he nurses.

Re: Nursing time too short?

When she was colicky I used to pump until about 30 seconds after I had letdown (I have a rapid letdown so the flow was too fast for her and she was gulping a lot of air) Maybe I will have to try the nipple pinching so that she doesnt get so fussy, because when she gets fussy then I tense up and letdown comes even harder. I can't believe I didn't think of a nursing necklace! I've heard they are great. DD #1 was an excellent nurser, never fidgeted or looked away until she was done, just nursed, so this is kind of new to me lol. Thanks for the idea, I will look into getting one.
