What type of Dr. does your LO see?

I'm curious why type of Dr. you take your lo to. We've seen a pediatrician since DS was born, but I've never been totally happy with them. They're ok but very mainstream and I honestly, take their opinion and advice with a grain of salt. I think I've stayed with them for 3 years because DS is never sick so he only sees them once a year or so.

DS hasn't been to his 3 yr well child visit because I'm afraid to tell them I don't want to vax him anymore I'm almost postive they will fire me as a patient. I think I want a naturopath but I'm curious if you have found regular pediatricians who are ok with you not vaxing? How did you find them? Did you interview them first?

Re: What type of Dr. does your LO see?

Our kids have always seem family docs (we all see the same one right now). Generally (I've heard this from other people as well) Family docs are a lot more open to alternative parenting. We don't have many other options here - it's either ped or family physician. There are actually more family physicians offices here compared to peds.
ETA:Oops, I found our current family doc by visiting the yahoo group that helps more AP parents find more open docs. If you want the group name you can PM me, it escapes me right now. I didn't interview them, but I had heard GREAT referrals.

He goes to a pediatrician but if I had it my way (which I don't because of our insurance) he would be going to a naturopath.

Re: What type of Dr. does your LO see?

She now sees a Ped, because we moved, but I liked the Nurse Practitioner we saw in our old town much better. She was open-minded, caring, responsive, and looked at the whole picture. She also would always respond to pages and one Saturday spent an hour talking to me when LO had a fever. I felt she had less ego than most docs have and more availability, while still being knowledgeable, and she treated me with more respect than most docs.

Henry doesn't go to the doctor, ever.

A ped. who is not mainstream. She's okay with delayed and selective vaxing and works with diet and homeopathic remedies before giving meds. Like I found out that DD#1 sniffling can bring on her ear infections. No doctor has ever told me that before. And she's pro-breastfeeding. She actually has a nursing room in her office.

I want your dr.! I'm having trouble with insurance covering a naturopath as a primary care provider so my first choice is a regular ped. Yours is exactly what I am looking for in a dr. I just don't know where to begin looking to find one!

Are you ever concerned with weight gain or anything? I think with baby #2 coming, that is the only reason I would go to the visits, to make sure he/she is on track and at a healthy weight. Maybe I'm just paranoid since DS had trouble gaining when he was little.
