How long did you bf for? Did your dc self wean?

Not that I'm thinking about weaning for a LONG time (ds is almost 6 months), but I'm just curious how long other mamas have bf their little ones

I plan to shoot for 2 years since that seems to be what's recommended these days, but why do some people look at you like you're crazy to nurse for that long?

Also did your child self wean, or did you wean yourself?

I nursed for 16 months and had to wean him due to him giving me a very bad case of impetigo that would not heal while we were nursing. It broke my heart, he asked for months to nurse afterward.

I was wondering the same thing, my DD is almost a year and i bf my other two for about 15 months and then they kind of just weaned themselves, seems like after i introduced them to the cuppy so i haven't introduced her to that yet and everyone thinks i'm crazy! But i forget when i started giving them cows milk, when do people give that to dc, i was thinking it was about 15 months or so for my other two dd's.

I nursed for 9 months then switched over to EBM and then to formula for the last month of his first year. I had horrible issues with plugged ducts and mastitis and I got really sick of being sick. One of throse ducts ended up forming a cyst in itself and I had to have it surgically removed this spring - we weren't sure if it was cancer or not until it was out. I will nurse any other children we have bnut man, to say I'm not looking forward to it is an understatement.

With my first son he self-weaned at 14 months waaaay before I was ready my younger son is 12 months and is nowhere near weaning, I'd love to night wean him but he's not getting with the program.

He's been using a bottle since 11 weeks for day care and then a sippy cup for the past 4 months or so. Not making a huge difference in his nursing habits.

dd is still nursing ay 22 months.....i dont know if we will self-wean or not.......i have started placing limits........we'll see how it goes once i get preggo again.......

I nursed ds till he was about 14 months and he pretty much self weaned. I must say though that he was only getting nursed when he woke up and at sleep times from about 11 months on due to his biting.

i just have to add that, According to all reliable info, it is rare for a child to self wean before the age of 3-4. It is all but impossible for a child to self-wean before the age of two.........
most likely, any child who appears to "self wean" before 2 is actually on a nursing strike, or the mother is weaning without realizing it......

dd#1 weaned at 4 3/4 on her own
ds weaned at 2 1/2...told me that it was for babies and he was done
dd#2 weaned at almost 3....i think that i weaned her, without doing it on purpose. She's still a booby baby, though. She falls asleep with her head between my boobs and had tried to nurse a couple tiems since then but didn't rememeber how

#4 will nurse until he/she is ready to stop.....

I am still nursing a 3 year old adn a 18 month old. Now when I was in my early stages of pregnacy I did discourage nursing because it hurt so bloody bad, but once it let up I went back to full nuring and my supply came back up. I don't see either one fully weaning yet, my older one only nurses a half a dozen to a dosen times a month, but it is there when she needs it. I don't mind.
