Re: How long did you bf for? Did your dc self wean?

My oldest self weaned just before her 3rd birthday. I tandem nursed her and her baby sis for about a year. Hailey is still nursing at 22 months and will continue till she is ready to stop. She nurses morning, bedtime, once or twice through the night and at naptime. She eats regular meals and is given as much water, juice or milk as she wants.

most likely, any child who appears to "self wean" before 2 is actually on a nursing strike, or the mother is weaning without realizing it......

I nursed DS until 10 months and then he did self wean. I tried and tried to get him to nurse for weeks and he wouldn't. I talked to the LLL leader a few different times and she said though it's not that common, she has seen babies self wean at 10 months and around that age. I wish I was still nursing DS and that he wouldn't have weaned himself but we aren't. I really enjoyed our nursing relationship and plan to nurse the next one for a long time.

To all you mamas still nursing, good for you. To all those that aren't, don't feel bad. You are an awesome woman regardless!

I weaned my DD when she was 14 months. I thought it was going to be really hard because wasn't showing any signs of being ready, but I wanted to TTC and I wasn't having a period still. She weaned in 3 days and never asked to nurse again.

#1 nursed until 11.5 months when I got pg with #2 and OB said to wean or miscarry. (I was cramping severely). She got some EBM and regular milk after that.
#2 self-weaned at 9m but got EBM until 1.
#3: self-weaned/(little help) at 26m.
#4: self-weaned around 13m.
#5: 4m now and will self-wean.
