Prefold users: How do you carry prefolds in your diaper bag?

Hi Mamas,

I am looking for suggestions for how to cinch down prefolds in my diaper bag. I use the premium regular size 4x8x4. They seem too thick to trifold. I tried to roll up my prefolds in a receiving blanket and tied 2 shoelaces around the blanket. Problem is after I use them, they are difficult to get re-rolled when I have to use one of those nasty public bathroom changing stations. I use public transportation and carry 10 with me at a time. I would rather buy more fluff then spend the money on disposables.

I am also open to sewing something if anyone has suggestions. I am a newbie sewer, but very anxious to learn.

Thank you

Molly

Re: Prefold users: How do you carry prefolds in your diaper bag?

I trifold them and then fold them in half (just like I do for storing them on the shelf). The size of my diaper bag works nicely to just put one or two diapers in the bottom.

For carrying dirty diapers home, I stuff them into a wet bag and stuff the whole thing back into the bag. It's not pretty (unless my diaper bag is not full of other stuff) but it works fine for me.

Would a big hair elastic work to keep a diaper rolled up without adding extra fabric (like with the blanket)? Then you only have an elastic to stick in a pocket when the diaper is dirty in the wet bag.

Exactly. I fold them the same way I fold my towels. Fold in half and then trifold.

I fold mine in quarters. Just like on the changing table. I have a very small diaper bag and I usuall carry 2-3 with me.

Re: Prefold users: How do you carry prefolds in your diaper bag?

I couldn't figure out how to word this so it made sense so I just made one and then took pics of it...when you said rolled them up this is what I thought of...a small elastic loop at one end of the PF to roll it up in of course you would have to figure out how big the elastic needs to be for your particular PF but here it is...don't mind the holes I wanted to try it out on an old PF to make sure it would work..

Here's the loop on the PF (I zig zagged it on)

Here it is trifolded

and here it is rolled up

you could just throw them in the bag like that...and if your a cloth wipe user you could roll a wipe or two inside the diaper and then it is all together...

That's a great idea with the elastic! I just fold mine in half and keep them on top of the bag (my diaper bag is HUGE!). I may try the elastic though!

What a GREAT idea! I just usually fold mine in 4ths and then in half again and drop them in.

You're supposed to fold them first?! I just dump them in there! Although lately I've started sticking the doubler in with each prefold to make it easier to find. I only have one in CDs though...
