Prenatal Vitamins

Which brand do you use and why? Right now I am using Melaleuca, but I cancelled with them and I will have to find another kind when I am out.

Thanks so much

Shannon

Re: Prenatal Vitamins

prenatal vitamins always made me horribly sick so I was told by my doc to take flinstone vitamins for the folic acid. So I took the gummie ones and they tasted like fruit chew candies. Yummy. I was told to double the recommended dose though.

I take. Maternal Symetry. I buy them at Sprouts. They are capsuls not pills. and they have peppermint and ginger inthem, and not a ton of iron and i never get sick off of them... Most of the prenatals have wayyy too much iorn and causes most moms to get sick. Ihave taken costco dino vitamins when I was out too.

I stopped taking prenatals when I realized my daily intake of iron was 250%-300% of the RDA!!! Now I'm taking a regular multi vitamin that's low in Vitamin A and only 50% of iron instead of 150%. But I also track everything I eat, so it's easier to tell that I'm getting the nutrients I need.

Re: Prenatal Vitamins

I get the One Source prenatals at Walmart. There is 240 (i think) pills in a bottle for just about $9. They are the smaller ones about the size of a motrin. I am such a baby when it comes to pills lol. So the smaller and less gaggy tasting the better. These have a berry or something along those lines coating. Normally I gag taking prenatals but these are great!!

Re: Prenatal Vitamins

I take Today's Health (Raley's grocery store brand)--100/$8. I've also taken a generic brand of Stuart's Prenatal, which was half the price at the drug store (Rite Aid, I think.)
Whichever you go w/ make sure it doesn't constipate you or anything, since you'll most likely stay on it till you're done BFing (if you do that.)
My holistic ped suggested adding organic cod liver oil to the mix toward the end of my PG--the DHA helps baby's brain development and all kinds of mamas on another site swear it gives them more energy and has helped w/ their children's speech delays (?!?!) I just take it for the brain development part I use Nordic Naturals Arctic Oil--lemon flavored gelcaps. They make it for kids and teens, too... http://www.nordicnaturals.com/direct/Retailproducts.asp

I take Twinlab Prenatals. I also take a fish/flax seed oil capsule for the Omega 3/6/9 fatty acids.
