I voted I don't mind sharing, but the names I chose were common. Now, if it had been a close family relative who absolutely knew about my choice and beat me to it, that might have been a bit different. Still, first come, first get to name the kiddo! All's fair!

Not really. I just prefer names that are a little different. I'll admit that it does kind of bug me when I hear that others have chosen the same name though.

We just found out that my SIL is pg and I'm strangely happy that we'll have first crack at the names.

It depends. If its a friend or a not too close relative I don't mind, but if I were pg had announced the babies name and then say my sister used it before I could (she would never do that by the way) then I'd be upset. But for the most part I don't mind sharing.

Re: Just out of curiousity, does it bug you...

At our last family reunion I had told all my family that we were naming our DD Sofia Isabella. There were two other pregnant relatives there. All of us were having girls. My cousin's wife named their DD Sophia Giada. I am ok with it because they live in another state. It is not like we see them often. I have to admit though.. it did seem a little annoying at first. We just saw them at a wedding and someone stupid person said to me jokingly that there must have been a name shortage, insinuating that I named my DD like theirs. I don't know why, lol, but I felt compelled to tell them that my DD was born a month and a half earlier and it seems like we must have just liked the same name

I don't know b/c it hasn't happened to me.

I know my friend found it annoying and won't tell ANYONE the name of her children until they are born. I guess i would if i picked a name for my child told someone and then they used it for their child very soon after or before...i guess if it was a couple years later i wouldn't mind so much....

MY DD was named after her Paternal Great Grandma and dad's an only child and there is a cousin named after the same person but we used great grandma's legal middle name (but the name everyone called her by that she like) and the cousin is named after her legal first name....so we weren't worried there...DS is a junior so i really didn't care if anyone used that name b/c he was going to be it no matter what relative or friend wanted it...lol

That's the way I look at it as well. Although it's never happened to me, all my friends/family pick mainstream names and I don't...I don't ever see it happening to us...in fact my mother has both times tried to encourage me to use mainstream names..."so and so named their child xxxxxx, that would be a great name for your baby". Didn't work! LOL!

Yes it bothers me. My BIL/SIL took one of our top 2 names for our DS after we told them they were our two choices. I will not share names again for future DC because of this.
