Re: Just out of curiousity, does it bug you...

I had this happen to me, some friends at church were having a baby she was due a month before me and we were talking about names they had not picked a name but we had and I told her what name we would be using, a couple weeks later I saw an announcement in the newsletter that their baby was born and she used the name I picked. I was not happy that she did that and I got a few remarks about naming my son after hers

Hehe. I voted other because we did not ANYONE what our names were.

There were a few reasons and not really because I thought someone may "steal" them but more because,

1. We did not want anyone else's opinion on what we should name our child or what they thought of the name that we had chosen.

2. We wanted to be able to change the name 100 times over and not have to try to remember who to retell only to have someone call our baby by the wrong name after we actually had given him a name.

3. Well it was just kinda fun to see how many people would BUG us to tell them the name and also try to trick us. LOL

4. We did not find out the gender of the baby so it seemed silly to tell anyone anyways.

It doesn't bother me. My cousin named her ds my ds's middle name (and didn't realize it until a couple of months ago even though she writes both names often ). I do try and be sensitive of others though. One name I kind of like for this dd is very similar to my friends new baby, and I know it would really upset her if I used it, so I am keeping it incase of any future dds.

That was me until this pg! This is the first time we've known the sex and could call dd by a name before birth.
I actually changed dd3's name a week before she was born b/c I just woke up *knowing that the one we chose wasn't to be her name.
We don't tell family names b/c I don't want to hear their opinions. I learned the hard way w/dd1. They're always judgemental and it's much harder to pick on a name when there's a cute LO to go w/it. Now I'll only tell friends who won't make comments on the choice.

Re: Just out of curiousity, does it bug you...

It bugs me to no end IF someone knows that I am going to use a name and then steals it before I even get to use it. I put lots of thought into the names I like and it just irks me. Now if I don't use it, or if they ask.. it mostly doesn't bother me.

I usually NEVER tell anyone, other than my DH , any names that we are seriously considering anyway so it doesn't affect me now.

I also think I get crazy in pregnancy and the period following, so that could be why it bothers me too!

We didn't tell anybody the name either Mainly so we wouldn't have to argue with anybody. We told a few close relatives about a month before he was born and we got some strange comments at that point, so we stopped telling people again...
