Re: Just out of curiousity, does it bug you...

Yes, kind of. Well, we had a weird issue with the name we'd chosen for DD (due in December). Her first name will be my mother's first name and her middle name will be the same as my sister's middle name.

My BIL told me they had decided if they had another girl that that was the name they were giving her. Now mind you, they are not preggers nor do they have plans to be anytime soon...but he thought they should have "dibs" on the name because their last name is "hard to find good girl names for." I said, "Oh. well, it's my mom's name. Why don't you try going that route?" And that was the end of the discussion - except of course behind my back.

If it were a close family member or friend, I'd be upset, but acquaintances using the name wouldn't bother me. We share as soon as we pick it to kinda put "dibs" on it. My sil had her baby today and he is yet to be named....but whatever she names him, it better NOT be Garrett Preston, our on the way's name.

Re: Just out of curiousity, does it bug you...

If it is someone I actually know, in person, that I'm close to, then yes, because they all know how important it is to me to have an uncommon, unique name. If it's someone that I don't know IRL (like any of my online mama friends), then it doesn't bother me at all, and I kind of find it flattering that they like "my name" so much!
Now, with that being said, I will admit that I stole my brother's boy name for DS, both of them actually, first & middle. You must understand, though, that I don't see him having any more kids in the near future (he has 1 DD now and is divorced) and even if he does get remarried & have a son, what are the chances that his wife would agree with his name? We never even asked him... we just went ahead and used it and no one in my family has ever mentioned it since.

Re: Just out of curiousity, does it bug you...

I'm sort of having that problem now with my brother and his wife. We are both having girls, but they are ten weeks ahead of me. They won't even pic their top five!!! They are waiting till they see her to decide what to name her which is making me crazy I'm afraid to pick something because I want them to have first shot since it is their first and our second but I really like knowing the name, or at least having an idea of what the name will be ahead of time. I know I have two months after them to decide, I'm just impatient
And for the op, I would hate it if I staked a claim on a name and my brother stole it. Which is why I'm trying to not claim any so he can have first pick, but it's really hard I try not to let the fact that there are other people with DS's name in the world bother me, but secretly it does, especially if they are rednecks There I said it, so sue me I saw an H with a beer gut and a greasy mullet today and almost puked. It makes me feel like DS could turn out like that and I don't want that for him. As an aside, I know this is irrational, I'm only 20 weeks pregnant and HUGE and feel entitled to crazy, LOL

ETA: I love the name you picked for DD4, but I'm not planning on stealing it I think we have ours mostly decided but we need a middle name and are having a super hard time with it.
