RhoGam RH-

Can you educate me regarding the Rho Gam shot. I would like additional info to educate myself before I decline.

If both you & your DH are RH- then you really don't need the shot. Otherwise if one was + & the other- you could have a + DC and your antibodies would build up against the positives floating around. The shot is clear the antibodies so that your body isn't strong enough to block future +DC from forming. It's like a backwards vaccine.

Re: RhoGam RH-

If your child is Rh+ and you are Rh- then your blood will form antibodies AGAINST your child's blood. Your body will attack and you will miscarry, or have a stillborn, or a child with severe jaundice (possibly needing a complete blood transfusion). This only happens if the blood mixes (during labor) so your first child will be okay (you will have no antibodies against them). Your second child will not. The shot makes it so you will not create the antibodies against the blood so you can have another child.

If your DH is Rh+ then you will more than likely have all Rh+ children (with a - allele).

Re: RhoGam RH-

Do you know what your other LO's blood types are? DS1 was positive and my first so I didn't have to have it. W/ DS2 his is positive so I had to have it after he was born and if I am prego again so my body doesn't attack the baby if it is postive. Search Rhogam, they have a very informative website. I would say it is worth it one of my friends didn't have it and had a stillbirth b/c of it.

Sometimes you can get the antibodies with the first child - depends on when your DC's RBC's mix with your RBC's

Re: RhoGam RH-

i definitely think it's worth it mama. the shots are no big deal and i don't have to stress about my body attacking future children.

Re: RhoGam RH-

What are your personal thoughts on it? Why are you thinking of declining? I guess I never gave it a second thought to get it. It is a little disconcerting because it is a blood product but I was assured and reassured that it was heavily tested and safe. The risk of your babies blood and your blood is real, I don't know percentages. It happened to me but my DC is RH- so it was okay. The other pps described it well but I was just wondering your view of it.

Blood product and I'm researching vaccines I selective vaccinated in the past with my children and currently leaning towards not vaccinating. So I'm trying to gather all the info I can

I know a couple who because of their religion, could not have the shot. They ended up only have one child, because her body would not accept any other fetuses.

I suppose it depends on how many children you want to have and if your body develops strong enough antibodies to mc.
