What else do I need?

I have about 8 cloth dipes and plenty of cloth wipes. I know I'll need more diapers and I'm working on that- we just can't afford to buy any right now!

I'm waiting for a small wetbag to come this week. What am I missing and where can I find it?? I know I need something for the new wipes (can't wipe a baby with a dry cloth ). Is there a recipe for wipe solution?? What about diaper rash?

Re: What else do I need?

I use 3 or 4 drops Tea Tree Oil (TTO) and a few drops lavender oil and use a squirt bottle and squirt ~18 wipes with 1 1/2 cups warm water with the oils. Then I put them in my warmer. Works great for me and she's got really sensitive skin.

Do you have fitted dipes? Covers to go with them? Prefolds rock and are comparitively cheap. DH likes them the best. They also work better for us than pockets or AIO for night bc she sleeps on her side. The monkey doodlez fitted is ultra thick and great if the LO is a heavy wetter. takes forever to dry in the dryer though.

I used the above and just added lotion to mine. I loved that combo. I used the lavendar baby oil and it gave it a nice smell. I'd say invest in some prefolds, those are cheap and super durable. Look on FSOT, you can get some already fluffed for you for inexpensive.

Oh, I heard (on other threads) not to use baby oil bc it's petroleum based and not good for skin or dipes in washer. Have no experience there though.

Re: What else do I need?

Here's a link with all kinds of suggestions for wipes solutions - I'm easy with distilled water, a squirt of baby wash & a squirt of baby oil. I hadn't heard that about the baby oil, but kind of makes sense. I just love the fresh clean smell of that combo & it's easy to do a refill, not to mention CHEAP.

Do you have a trash can/diaper pail for your wet bag or just hanging it? You'll need one with a flip lid of some sort

I too recommend prefolds, especially if you're on a tighter budget. There's a number of ways to embellish them & make them look cute down the line, but you can't beat the price, especially if you eventually want to get to a point of CDing 100% of the time.

I have some "prefolds" I think that's what they are. I got them to use them as burp cloths when my dd was a newbie - can I use these. I have no idea how to use them. any quick links with info about this.

I'm also trying to find a good store online that sells everything I need. I have 2 stores that I've used but they don't have what I need (Flushable liners and rash cream)

Re: What else do I need?

greenmountaindiapers.com (you have to do a lot of scrolling but this site is loaded with awesome pics of examples & how-tos)
tinytush.com
cottonbabies.com
nickisdiapers.com
kellyscloset.com
abbyslane.com
pinstripesandpolkadots.com
babycottonbottoms.com ($5 flat rate shipping)

www.diaperpin.com is a great place to get reviews on specific diapers & diaper stores.

These are just a few - I don't know that you'll find rash "cream" per se, but probably more like a spray or something.

Remember, not all prefolds are the same! It's best to go with 4x8x4, rather than 4x6x4 for absorbancy. The prefolds from greenmountaindiapers.com or little-lions.com are highly recommended.

Do some searches on diaperswappers for what you're looking for & you'll find some great info.

The prefolds you have as burp cloths can be used as a diaper, but they may not be as absorbant if the middle section doesn't have more layers. There are MANY links in diaperswappers that show how to fold prefolds, but here's one to get you started:

http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/...d.php?t=173216

just do a search on "folding prefolds" & you'll be able to find a few others.
