Healthy LunchBox Ideas?
I can't believe it,but DS is starting all day kindergarden on the 15th. We decided that he is going to take his lunch with him.
I know I could do sandwiches everyday, but I'm looking for other ideas that I can pack up for him,so it helps if the ideas are kid friendly Sarah |

Re: Healthy LunchBox Ideas?
I saw an article on this same topic in the latest Mothering magazine. I'll have to dig it out of the magazine pile to check out their ideas. I'll get back to you!
The article stated the importance of including a "growing food" (source of protein), a vegetable, and a fruit. Here are a few things from the article... burrito (whole-wheat tortilla, mashed beans, salsa, grated cheese) turkey sandwich on sprouted whole-grain bread apple miso almond butter sandwich hard-cooked egg avocado, cheese, cucumber & sprouts sandwich cucumber slices nori (cut in shapes) baked sweet potato corn snap peas steamed green beans carrot sticks celery sticks blanched broccoli red graps satsuma plum apple slices nectarine slices melon slices kiwi slices fresh pineapple chunks pear strawberries There were also some recipes for oatmeal cookies, muffins, sesame noodles, rice balls rolled in sesame salt. There is a lot more listed... lmk if you'd like more info!

Re: Healthy LunchBox Ideas?
If your little one likes veggies, try making veggie rollups. Take a tortilla and spread a little cream cheese on it then rollup shredded or cut up veggies. Shredded carrots, cucumbers, lettuce. Whatever she might like. Of course you could do this w/ ham or turkey and cheese too for a variation on a sandwich.
My DD loves Tuna Salad. so for her lunch I may try to send some crackers and small container of tuna salad. We may test this one at home to see if she can make her own. I will think about this one more, my DD starts Kindergarten after Labor day so we will be right behind you. |
