etiquette ?

I'm a new seller, and I was just wondering about this. I have posted some items for sale, and have recieved pms from several different potential buyers who are interested. I don't want to say that the items are pending, because nobody has actually said they'll buy them, and I don't want to lose other potential buyers. Is it okay to answer they're questions, and then whoever buys first gets it, and then just say sorry, the item is sold? Or is there a more tactful way to do this?

Thank you for asking this! I'm new here too and was wondering the same thing. Also, is it considered proper etiquette to pm someone back and let them know that the item is no longer for sale if they've pm'd you that they are interested. That's what I've been doing, but haven't always gotten pm's back from people whom I've pm'd expressing an interest in their items.

It sounds like you are on the right track. I never post something pending until either a)the seller says "I want it, can I PM you back in ** amount of time" or b) they ask for my paypal address.

Re: etiquette ?

Ditto Manna. Until they have asked for my pp addy (and then they have 12 hours to pay) I consider the item fair game. I might let the various mamas know in the course of the conversation that there are other mamas interested just so no one gets ticked and it sometimes encourages them to pay up. (Don't lie though because a lot of people back off if there is a lot of interest.)

I mark it pending when someone has my addy.

I mark it sold when they pay.

Welcome to DS!

Re: etiquette ?

You can always say "I would like payment within 12 hours" (or another number) or will pass them on to the next seller. DO be polite though as it's frustrating to be hoping you get something, not be on Diaperswappers, come back and it's sold out from under you.

I go with the first in line rule.

Or if you're doing a trade, work that out if you want...if you can't find something good to trade, let the mom know you'd rather have paypal or will pass it on to another seller.
