Re: Low weight baby, dr wants me to supplement

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but you can get domperidone online. I don't have time right now, but I will try to find more information on where to get it tomorrow.

Dr. Newman IS the doctor in Toronto your LLL leader was talking about. He's absolutely amazing. I am about 5 hours away from TO, and he emailed me a prescription to take into my pharmacy (this was for APNO, not Dom., though), and told me if they had a problem with taking it, they could call him and deal with him.

He will do whatever is in his power to enhance and extend the nursing relationship between mom and baby. If you can get a chance to talk to him (you don't have to go there physically), it would be totally worth it.

The site for HIM is http://www.bflrc.com/newman/articles.htm

Print this out and take it to the nurse at your pedi. office (see #11)!

This is what the LLL leader is suggesting - good stuff here in Canada. It used to be approved by the FDA but I think it got pulled about 3-5 years ago???

I didn't read all the responses..but I went thru the same thing...at 2 mos...my dd was still under her birth weight and almost went in the hospital. I am really tall & thin myself...almost 5'11 and about 130lbs or so...depending on the day. Anyway, the pedi pressured me soooo much and I did stop bfing for a little bit b/c they wanted to bulk her up...I was so peed! They basically told me that "forget it I'll never get my milk back" so I met with LLL and a lactation consultant and they helped me. I never went back to strictly bfing..she gets two bottles a day now but she is still bfing.....she gets organic formula...I am actually thinking about cutting out one of the bottles too. I switched pedi b/c they were totally unsupportive...it's awful that docs do this...and they are not educated AT ALL on this stuff...really makes me angry...so good for you to keep trying...don't give up. It's only good for them to bf...the docs seem like they just don't want the inconvenience...they can control the situation better if you are giving formula....UGH.... and they are so afraid of getting sued....

to you..hang in there...I know it's so stressful and you feel like you are alone in the situation! YOu can do it!

Hugs!

And please don't make the mistake of judging your supply by pump output if you do use it to help boost your supply. Yes, a baby is best at getting milk out but the addition stimulation that the pump provides can make a difference. My DS can get more milk out in five minutes than I can get out via pump in twenty (I WOH, so I have to pump).
