She is sooooo squirmy! How to change a diaper???

My 10m old has gotten super hard to change- it is a wrestling match. Even with her changing table with the safety belt on- she flips over and can crawl out of it- I don't want to hurt her by holding her down and besides I don't want to traumatize her...I was going to switch to prefolds due to some rash issues- but there is no way to get those on the little buggar! Please tell me this is a phase- toys, books, anything doesn't change it! Any ideas for what to do? Thanks!!!

Have you tried giving her a wipe, wipes case, or cell phone--something not conventionally considered a toy? It was nigh impossible to get my now 21-month-old stepdaughter to stay still for diaper changes, until one day I handed her a wet wipe. She loved it! She lay still, wiping her tummy as I got her changed.

Maybe you could try a mobile, too--something with movement & music.

We have the same issues over here. Just wait until they can walk and they get up and run away!!! We use pockets and I have found that the side snap kind are a bit easier to get on. With the snaps being straight up and down and on the side it's easier for me to snap them when she's squirming away.

I have never used a change table. When they were little newborns & were needing changing at night I used the top of the dresser, other than that it was the living room floor. I kept everything in there.

When they started flipping & running away I would hold them down with my legs. It wasn't ideal but it was better than having to clean poop up off the floor later.lol If it was just a wet diaper sometimes I"d let them run naked or turn it into a game & then they'd lay still long enough.

Some people can master having them stand while you do it, I"m not one of them.lol

My son is 18 months and he will not take anything during changing time, not a cell phone or anything. I say just get everything ready, lay them on the floor, and go as fast as possible! I don't think you will traumatize her if you have to hold down her leg while you wipe poop.
You could try singing a song too...

That's too funny! I struggle most diaper changes with my 23 mos old. I have learned to diaper while she's twisting, turning, sliding off the bed, trying to run down the hall. Good luck. I'm sure it's a phase!

I just give ds anything he isnt soposed to have. The remote, the phone, his motrin syringe, tube of lotion or butt cream. Then change as fast as possible. Then go sit down for a quick rest! GL!!!

Yeah, I give dd my cell phone or the diaper rash cream bottle. Something she normally doesn't get to have. Though that doesn't always work which is the reason she crawls around naked often

I give my son one of his Robeez shoes. I have NO idea why he is so fascinated with them, but I've been doing it for months and it still works every single diaper change - even if it's the same shoe! lol

Re: She is sooooo squirmy! How to change a diaper???

sometimes i would stick a small piece of tape on dd2's finger to keep her still during changes. she was completely fascinated by it and it would buy me enough time to change her while she tried to figure it out. i didn't have to worry about her eating it since i was right there with her, yk? good luck!! i still wish there was such a thing as a pull on aio for babies that age. then you'd only have to lay them down for messy dipes...
