Re: My baby's 1st night away....sad/happy/sad...
It's hard...really hard.
Ds was about 2 and a half when DH and I went away for a weekend and left ds with friends. I was actually their nanny in the 90s and now the kids are 13 and 15 and they adore Joey. We went away again in September for the weekend and ds stayed with the family I babysit for now two days a week. I figure if they trust me with their kids... Try to relax and enjoy. I think you have it right in your head - enjoying being with the large, extended portion of her family, etc. You know she's safe and happy and you can get to her quickly if you're needed. It's hard to get through emotionally though. |

Re: My baby's 1st night away....sad/happy/sad...
Ds is 3 1/2 and the only time I have not been with him overnight was when I had dd. Even then, dh came home at night and stayed with him. Dd is 2 and has never spent the night away from me.

Re: My baby's 1st night away....sad/happy/sad...
DS was 2 1/2 and I was not happy about it, DH had told MIL that he could spend the night without consulting me and I didn't have the nerve at the time to say no, because I know she would have been crushed, I'm still not happy about it though. That being said, he was a early talker and could have whole conversations by then so that was somewhat of a comfort to me to know that when I called he could really tell me if he was sad or wanting to come home. He did great and loved it. DD is 2 and hasn't spent the night away yet and probably won't for another couple of months.

Re: My baby's 1st night away....sad/happy/sad...
My first dd was 14 months and was away from home for 10 days. My second dd was 4 weeks, and was away from me for just over two weeks.

Re: My baby's 1st night away....sad/happy/sad...
Oldest DS spent the night with my family when DD was being born, and he was barely a year. It drove me nuts the entire time! But now, all three o fmy kids have great bonds with my family, and eventhough i HATE it when they leave, i know they are fully enjoying their time!
Its VERY hard at first, but it does get easier. Granted, they still dont go to friends overnight (even at 8 years old!), but we have all come to terms with that they all love and need my family when i need a break, or when ihave to rush to the hospital with one child or another mama! I know it stinks! But imagine what a good time DD is having. And im sure come sleep time, youll be getting a call to pick her up! Ive had sooo many of those!

Re: My baby's 1st night away....sad/happy/sad...
I left DD#1's bio father before she was 10 months old. I voted 6-12 months since she went with him not long after her first b-day. I consider it being away at that point because his place was no longer her true home.

Re: My baby's 1st night away....sad/happy/sad...
dd is 2 (how'd THAT happen??)
she's never spent the night away from me/us. I have NO plans on it happening in the near future (next year) We've been out w/o her exactly ONE time - we drove 15h to see my cousin for Christmas and took advantage of having dinner out alone.

Re: My baby's 1st night away....sad/happy/sad...
Well, let's see. My oldest was away from me and DH for 3 nights when she was 3 months old. She was away from us for a week at about 9 months old. She's been gone for a week every summer since she was 3 (she's now 7). My DS, I don't know the first time he was apart from us overnight. And my youngest, I think she's only been away from me overnight once, and she was about 7 months. They've been away from daddy a lot, though (well, except the baby) as he's military and has been deployed a few times. I've never had a problem leaving my kids. Not saying I could leave them with just anyone, but I have no problem leaving them with family.
