Re: Silicone or latex pacifiers?

I didn't plan to use one and made it 3 weeks before I was (literally) ready to hurt my LO if she didn't stop nursing (severe PPD/P took its toll and I needed personal space) so I tried the paci

In the end it was the baby's choice, and she wanted only a latex pacifier by sesame workshop... it is the only thing she would take and had been discontinued 2 years ago (I got the first one in the mail or something for free).

Then the unthinkable happened and we lost it I tried every other paci on the market and she would have none of them... even silicone ones that were the same shape.... I ended up buying several sesame workshop pacifiers online from auctions for $7 or more each then about 4 weeks later she weaned herself from them and started sucking her thumb

did I mention I hate pacifiers... gurr

Sam only ever took silicone. I think it's because I use a silicone shield when I nurse, so he's used to it, kwim? He uses the nuk kind.

Re: Silicone or latex pacifiers?

I tried a few different kinds, and my son ended up preferring the silicone Nuks. If I can't find one of those, and give him one of the latex ones he will grind his teeth on it. It makes a squeaky noise That's my wierdo....

Re: Silicone or latex pacifiers?

My guy took to the silicone one - he didn't like the latex one we had from the hospital and I tried a silicone one since hos bottle nipples are silicone - BINGO!!!!

We never intended to use a paci either but the comfort nursing was making me raw

Re: Silicone or latex pacifiers?

Silicone. Back in the day, there was only latex and they wore out after only a few months. They also tasted yucky. I think the silicone ones came out when my 3rd was born, at least that's when I discovered them. That's all I buy now. I just don't see how the latex breaking down could be good for the baby. I still have a couple of silicone ones floating around my house from my 4 1/2 year old!! And when he finds one, he pops it in his mouth and goes into this trance-like state, too funny. I like the MAM ones and so did all of my babies.

I use silicone because I am somewhat sensitive to latex and I was always afraid that DC would be.

Re: Silicone or latex pacifiers?

Haydn will only take a Gerber Gentle Flex silicone paci. We have about a dozen of them . He started with the Gumdrop silicone and then moved to Avent silicone and finally these. Now he will have a major meltdown if you try to give him any other.
