Re: What shoud I do with the milk???

I wouldn't feed it to her. Was it atleast in a deep freezer?
I voted find something else to do with it. If you are crafty, I know alot of moms with left over milk make soap out of there breastmilk, its actually awesome soap, I've never made it but I have bought some a local boutique. I don;t have the recipe though so you would need to search for it.

You could check with a local Milk Bank to see if they'll take it (see http://hmbana.org/ for a list of banks). They won't buy milk, but they'll pay for shipping if necessary, and for the required blood test/screen.

Here is some of the info I found. I tried to search on La Leche League's site, but it wasn't working for some reason .

Tips for Frozen Milk

--If stored at zero degrees in a self-defrosting freezer, use within 6 months

--If stored at zero degrees in a standard freezer, use within 12 months

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_long_c...te_breast_milk

Fresh milk may be placed in a separate deep freeze (chest-type freezer) for 6-12 months. If previously kept at room temperature, or stored in a cooler or refrigerator before freezing, storage time may vary

http://www.breastfeed-essentials.com...ehandling.html

Chest or upright deep freezer
-4F or -20C
612 months

HTH!!!

I would defrost it, smell it & if smells right, I'd use it.

sometimes milk that is perfectly fine will have a soapy smell, so i wouldn't go on that. it has something to do with lipase or something like that. i can find out if anyone is really interested. i would use it, at least for cooking.

Re: What shoud I do with the milk???

It's almost certainly till good at a year. It will keep better thna anything else in the freezer and plenty of other things keep for a year. Either La leche league or kelly mom (Iforget which) says as long as it doesn't taste spoiled it isn't so try it first.

Re: What shoud I do with the milk???

if its been in a deep freezer, its fine. if your LO doenst wnat to drink it, it might be freezer burnt or bad so dont 'push' it but I'm feeding dd milk that is a year old and its all good.

I would prob not feed it if it had been in a reg freezer for a year. (unless I was desperate and then I'd give it a shot)

I think it's fine. My pedi and WIC told me 6 months in a regular freeze, so 12 months in a deep freeze should be fine! I gave DD milk over 6 months old a couple times when we were desperate, and she was absolutely fine.

This is CORRECT!!
It should be AOK if it was in the Deep Freeze & is less than a yr old!
