What to wind yarn onto when it is not behaving in a yarn ball?

Hi,

I got some thin cotton blend yarn -- its my first real experience with a thinner yarn, plus its multi colored yarn seems to make it split easier. Anyway it came in a donut shape, not a hank but not really a classic skein either. It was working fine as a donut for a while but it's about half way used and it wasn't holding up as well so I tried to change it to a center pull yarn ball. I tried twice and it keep knotting when I "centered pulled". I was thinking I might just need to wind it around something instead. OR I guess I can just not do the center pull.

Any ideas?

I don't do center pull on donut skeins. I would probably wrap it around a paper towel tube (or tp tube)

I've got an awesome caddy that my grandma had that was made to hold donut skeins. And come to find out a person in my knitting groups dad actually manufactured them. They are long from ever being made again and were only sold locally. But it's so cool!

Ahh so they are special! Good to know.. I think on the second one I might shove a tube in the center of it to begin with... maybe it'll keep its shape....
