Anyone's LO nurse more in the evening?

Our growth spurt is over!! Thanks for helping me through it ladies!

But she still nurses more often in the evening. Is she just gearing up for the night?

Re: Anyone's LO nurse more in the evening?

My LO always nurses more at evening/night time. It started being more prominent around the growth spurt/ starting solids combo I went through a month ago. Not fun, so I know what you mean about being thrilled to be out of the growth spurt!

Not much help, sorry!

My little guy always nurses more at night. He can go 3-4 hours during the day but in the evening he rarely even makes it to 2 hours.

Re: Anyone's LO nurse more in the evening?

This is completely normal! My DS does it too.
Here is some info I got from Kellymom about cluster feeding in the evening.

Cluster feeding, also called bunch feeding, is when babies space feeding closer together at certain times of the day and go longer between feedings at other times. This is very common, and often occurs in the evenings. It's often -but not always- followed by a longer sleep period than usual: baby may be "tanking up" before a long sleep. For example, your baby may nurse every hour (or even constantly) between 6 and 10 PM, then have a longish stretch of sleep at night - baby may even sleep all night.

My dd will nurse twice as much almost in the evening as in the daytime. I read somewhere that it has to do with an immature central nervous system and is completely normal for infants. (My dd is 6 months old and does it!)

Tanking up....I love that term. I am about to bathe her and "tank her up" and put her to bed!

Totally normal. They want a full belly for the big sleep period.

At nearly 15 months, Jed just wants to nurse all of the time.

ROFL. I SOOOO wish DD did this, but she nurses like a maniac in the evenings and then sleeps and eats every 2-3 hours through the night.
I think there are a couple of other reasons our LOs do this:
1) Milk production slows in the evening hours, so baby has to eat more often to get what he/she needs.
2) Babies are just TIRED this time of day and nursing makes them feel better, helps them unwind, etc.

Re: Anyone's LO nurse more in the evening?

I have a midnight-6 am "nursing ban" in place so my daughter has programed to "ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma" starting at 6:01 until I come get her to nurse. She usually stays on the boob until about 8:00, when her brother comes in the room to play. SO, to answer your question, my daughter nurses way more in the morning.
