I can't eat stuffing?

I was told by the MW that pregnant women can't eat stuffing cooked inside a turkey because it doesn't get fully cooked and I/the baby could get listeria. I was told that if I was to eat stuffing that it has to be cooked outside of the turkey. Has anyone heard this before?

Yeah, I always knew that. Its risky to eat stuffing that was cooked inside a raw bird b/c its hard to get the center hot enough to kill the bacteria.

We always made the stuffing in a separate dish.

Yeah... I have heard that. Stuffing is still yummy cooked out of the turkey. I can't wait for leftover sandwiches- turkey, stuffing, potatoes and cranberry sauce.

Yes, I have heard that. But, IMO NO ONE should eat stuffing cooked in the Turkey. I never ever do.

I never thought of that before! I'm in Canada so we had Thanksgiving in Oct. I ate stuffing out of the turkey and me and babe were both fine, thank goodness!

I have heard that, but I have been eating stuffing out of the bird since I was a kid, and well, I'm still here. If you are concerned about it though. Just eat stuffing that is made outside the bird.

don't eat it out of the turkey. not only can it make you sick, it's not as yummy since it doesn't have the awesome crunchy top but yeah my midwife said the same thing. pissed my MIL off to no end that i wouldn't eat her stuffing either, so that was another plus! her cooking is

Re: I can't eat stuffing?

Thanks for bringing this up I am so NOT eating stuffing. I just went through a listeria scare and let me tell you once you know what it does it has to be THE nastiest disease ever! Do not mess with it! I had exposure b/c we raise mini goats and they got it somehow and I was dealing with them before we knew what it was. One goat died in 24 hours, the other has some brain damage but is recovering though she had to be on antibiotics for weeks! She should eventually be totally recovered (maybe in a couple of months). It is nasty business!! Oh did I mention I am 3 weeks from delivery! It looks like the baby and I are ok though so it was just a scare but this is not something to take any type of chance with!

Same here. I ate it anyhow, my kids & I are fine. I don't know of a single person who has ever gotten sick from eating stuffing that was inside a bird.

How often does stuffing inside a turkey make a person sick? If the bird is cooked properly then I don't see there being a problem.
