Re: I can't eat stuffing?

actually i was watching martha stewart this week and she specifically said

that you should cook the stuffing and let it cool. THEN stuff it in the bird.

otherwise you could get salmonella

No one should eat stuffing cooked inside a bird. In order to fully cook the stuffing to the safe temperature the bird will be dried completely out. It's a no win situation dry turkey are raw turkey juices in the stuffing cause it didn't cook all the way. Just add some of the juices off of the cooked turkey to the stuffing and you still get that lovely flavor in a safe way.

Re: I can't eat stuffing?

I have heard that. My family has always made it as a side dish, so we never had to worry about it not being fully cooked. It is funny that you mentioned that because I got an email from BabyCenter yesterday about NOT eating the stuffing that is cooked inside the bird.

If you like it that way, cook the stuffing first.. then stuff it inside the bird before serving.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!!

Yeah..I'm glad I don't like stuffing in any way...and I am a meat germaphobe, so I don't like to risk eating ANY kind of meat unless its almost dry so I know its done. haha..

Re: I can't eat stuffing?

It's risky for everyone since it won't cook hot enough to kill the sketchiness that tends to live inside of a dead bird.
I would cook a separate batch on the stove or the oven. That's what we've always done. Or, take the stuffing out and then reheat it in the microwave if it's the flavor you want.
