Breastmilk and antibodies??

Okay so the other day I went to the ped and had our 3 mo check up. I told her we are not vaccinating til 1 year (at least, maybe waiting longer) and she said that since hanna is breastfeeding she will be semi-protected until she is 6 mo old but after that breastmilk has no support for infections and diseases, and that there are NO antibodies in breastmilk after 6 mo. I was a little stunned, but held my ground and said no shots period--but I really wanted to call her a moron. My first instinct was that she couldn't possibly be right---is she?? I thought BM gave babies and children whatever they needed at that time of their life? someone please educate me so that I am better informed for my 5 mo visit! thanks ladies

Re: Breastmilk and antibodies??

She's wrong.

The baby gets the antibodies as long as she's receiving breastmilk.

Yes, right. However, if you never had say measles, you can't pass along the anti-bodies for measles. Same goes for any other diseases. However, I don't think that's a reason to vax (we don't).
