How long did it take you and LO to get a good latch

Just looking for some inspiration and reminding myself that this will work eventually. For those of you with more than one...let's go with your first LO. Thanks

It was painful for 2 weeks but I'm not sure if that was a latch issue or just my nipples toughening up.

About 5 weeks. He had a good latch the day he was born. But then after that he started to only take the nipple. Took him awhile, but now he's good at it.

Don't give up. With my first she was a lazy sucker with a small mouth. It took a nipple shield and a month to get her to latch right. After that, it was an easy year of EBF. With my second, she latched on right away (within 10 min of birth) sucked for about 15 min and promptly sat up and burped! Every child and every mama is different!

same here- I don't think it was latch related, just me getting used to it. I know that one hurt more, and i think it was because that one requires a little more suction than the other one. (figured that out when I started pumping!)

I had overactive letdown so my baby had a hard time keeping a latch. She would come off and then just grab the nipple... It was more like 3 or 4 weeks before the letdown stabilized and she could peacefully nurse.

I voted 1-2 weeks. It was about 2 weeks, and that was with MANY trips to the LC for help. When DD was born, she swallowed a lot of gunk and was spitting it up for the first couple of days (and wouldn't eat at all). She developed a really bad gag reflex, and had to be syringe fed for the next couple of days before she would really latch at all. She never developed a perfect latch, but we got the job done just fine for the 14 months I nursed!

It took a few days for me, and got so much better as soon as my milk came in.

With my first it took 8 days. He was tongue tied so we used a nipple shield. Thanks to my ds nurse. None of the lc ever gave that option. The main lc said to get his tongue clipped and we did at 8 days old. He latched on that afternoon and did great!

We are still working on the latch at almost 1 month but it is much better now. He just needs some fine tuning now. Some latches are great and others make me cringe while my toes curl up in pain.
