Do you think it's rude to hang up on people?

On a scale of 1-10, how rude to you think it is to be hung up on by SO/friend/family member? Do you hang up on people? I was just wondering if it was a huge pet peeve to anyone else. I think it's at least a 9. I ALWAYS at least say "I have to go, I'll call you when I've cooled off, goodbye" or something to that effect if I don't like the way a conversation is going. It's just basic etiquette. What do you think?

Well, I've never hung up on anyone, especially family.

Yes, it's rude. Not saying I've never done it because there's a few times dh has gotten the dial tone from me , but yes, I do think it's rude.

Oh I've hung up on family. It's better than saying something I might *REALLY* regret later. It's very rare, but sometimes my family can push my buttons (my mother is really good at it). She's also pretty well hung up on me too.

Re: Do you think it's rude to hang up on people?

Hanging up on someone is INCREDIBLY rude, in my opinion. I have hung up on someone ONCE in my 21 years of life.. and that's a long story.

I, too, will at least say "I am hanging up now--I need to cool off." I wait for the person to acknowledge that I'm getting off of the phone, and say goodbye. No matter how angry I am. But.. I'm a goof, and 2 years of constantly being hung up on by Jed's dad made me even more psychotic about that kind of thing.

I have never done it...or had it done...but honestly I think it depends on why they hung up...for instance if I was being a down right bi*** then I would expect nothing more.......but if they were just bothered or being mean I thik its wrong...same as walking ot of the wrong when you are talking

My mother hangs up on me every time the conversation isn't going her way. Irks the daylights out of me. I'll call her back and demand to know why she did it and not to do it again.
I have hung up on DH whenever he's being a bonehead.

Re: Do you think it's rude to hang up on people?

The only person i hang up on is dh. I hate the phone first of all, and you rarely catch me talking to ANYONE, including family. with dh i have no choice though, we have to talk when he's out. if he's being a total butt, then yes, i have hung up on him.

I agree with you, it is incredibly rude- like an 8. it is also rude to hang up on telemarketers

Re: Do you think it's rude to hang up on people?

9.999!!! I HATE it. I had a "friend" hang up on me once and *I* had to be the bigger person and initiate the next call. A few months later she hung up on me again and never called back. Totally destroyed our "friendship."

When I get mad at DH I'll say "K, bye" and hang up before he can reply. It is rude, but at least he knows I'm upset and ending the convo (doesn't make it okay).
