Smile How to clean MY old Cabbage Patch Kid?

I have pulled out my old CPK's and want to give them to K to play with. My favorite and first , circa 1983 is super dirty. I did a Google search that did bring up one topic about cleaning. Some hand wash others machine wash. I would much rather do the delicate cycle in a pillow case version, but don't want to permanently damage Harold. Has anyone ever machine washed their CP?

Thanks bunches for any tips or opinions!

I have two of mine from back then and I just threw them in the washing maching. I have a front loader and it didn't do any damage. I wash all of the dolls and stuffies in our house all the time and have yet to damage any. I don't put them in a pillowcase either

Yay! I just wanted to hear it from somebody (or somebodies) that it worked! Harold is off to get a much needed bath . I seriously cannot believe some of the stains he had on him . What was he doing? Playing in the mud? It's not like I didn't take him EVERYWHERE with me . Yay!

Thanks again Mama's! Harold went through two wash cycles-he was REALLY dirty. Although he isn't 100% stain free, he is definitely 100% clean.

Of course during this washing time K woke up and I gave him another one to play with. And when I showed him Harold (both are bald, but Sarah is a premie with pacifier) he tossed Harold to the ground . Poor Harold.

Re: How to clean MY old Cabbage Patch Kid?

I have done a bunch of CPK reroots and am working on one right now. They can be spot cleaned wonderfully but for a good overall cleaning I second the washing machine in a pillowcase method. If its really bad....(which it doesn't seem like it is) you can get a new body, replace the head and then roll the old tattered body up and put it inside the new body (just so you can keep the old body)....here's a pic of what I did to my old one (who was in REALLY bad shape) She was a mess..her hair was beyond repair, her face had some marks I couldn't get off (so I painted over them) added some freckles and eyelashes and she had lost her binky and I had to get a replacement...whew it was a ton of work but she is much happier now

There are certain head molds and factories that seem to have a high incident of CPK pox and cancers. It's unfortunatly not really curable. You can take the head off and clean inside really well. If you google cpk pox or cpk cancer there should be instructions on how to handle it. I have only heard about it never had to deal with it....sorry
