What is a good gift for a child under 3? We have a b-day party and the child has every toy under the sun???

Art supples, books or traditional wooden toys. Oh and my kids LOVE puzzles ~ those thick wooden ones with the knobs on the pieces are great for a 2 year old.

You would forever be banned from parties at my house if you brought these for my 2 yo!! lol Just kidding, actually I love giving kids artsy stuff, paints and paper and stuff. Probably bcs I am artsy and want to share the love. But I get that first comment a lot from other parents when I suggest those things. it is like a lot of parents around here are trying to get through their kid's childhood mess free?! How that is even possible I have no idea! If you are going to give paints though, I suggest a cute art smock/apron you can have your kids decorate one from Michaels (I am pretty sure they have plain canvas ones you can use fabric paint on) that would be something no one else is going to give him/her!

My girls got some crayons that are specifically for bathtub time, and some little tablets that dye the water whatever color.

We have an Aquadoodle mat from Toys r Us for like $20 that's really awesome!

For my nephew I got him little cars to push around, boys at that age are obsessed with wheels. For my niece my sis and I are at war w/each other (she bought Tony a drumset) so I buy whatever toy is the loudest and most obnoxious lol. If I'm nice I buy her dress up clothes

I too like the artsy gifts...something that provides lots of fun memories ...instead of a plastic currently trendy and quickly forgotten toy.
I'm also a sucker for books...I don't know that I'd give used ones but I have no problem receiving them...(why the double standard?)

Re: good b-day gift for a 2 year old

i nearly always get this eric carle giant board book for little ones i know, either for their first or second birthday. it has never failed to elicit raves from their parents, and the kids just love it until the little stuffed caterpillar is looking pretty ratty, lol. many parents have told me it's their child's favorite book, it's a must have in my opinion.

Re: good b-day gift for a 2 year old

As a mom of 2-yo twins who have EVERYTHING, I can vote for "consumable" gifts . . . stickers, markers, Crayola has this notepad that you can "paint" but it doesn't get on anything else, stuff like that.

Or - to give a gift to the mom AND the child - give him a certificate to take him to the children's museum and ice cream afterward.

Depending on how much you want to spend...
Membership to the zoo, or a museum... or just a one-time pass.
