When the terrible 2's start early....

Seriously, DD just turned 16 months old and after being sick with both croup and pneumonia for the past week and a half she is starting to feel better. However, that amazingly sweet DD has warped into something else. She is still sweet, but has now learned the word NO, has figured out how to get up on the furniture and climb, jump or whatever else pops into her brain. Did I forget to mention the temper tantrums? Yesterday, she was throwing a fit because I wouldn't let her play with some new books of mine. She threw herself on the floor and started kicking and screaming and inching around on the floor. It was actually quite funny, but here is what got me. In all of her inching around she managed to get her bottom half under our bed. So she stops, crawls out into the open and starts again! Finally, she is obsessed with putting things down my shirt and squeezing my "girls".

Oh please tell me the terrible 2's haven't started already!

After Isaac is sick he usually does act up more than usual . . .I think it's the whole coddling while he's sick thing and not feeling 100% just after.

Other than that around 18 months Isaac did start throwing tantrums, we ignored them and they quit pretty quickly. Once he realized he wasn't going to get attention for what he was doing he threw very fits. (They come and go now, recently we went through the whiney, crying phase ugh!)

I agree. My DD is getting over an ear infection and an upper respitory infection and she was acting up all day yesterday. Granted she is almost 2, but I have noticed in the past she acts up after being sick.

My DD started being bratty around then too. The tantrums peaked right before she learned to talk. Now she's 25 months and still bratty but slightly better.

That's hilarious about the bed thing, I can totally picture it.

Re: When the terrible 2's start early....

The whining really gets to me. So, I read a tip to use a whiny voice to talk to them and tell them that it is whining. Once she learned what it was, I can tell her to stop whining and ask for what she wants (she is 21 mo). It hasn't solved the problem, but it did help. Today, she was cranky and kept deliberately falling on the floor and shouting, "Uh-oh! Uh-oh! Oh, noooo!" Hilarious.

If your DD is tired, that can cause that kind of behavior. We had tantrums and meltdowns for 2 weeks with the time change/gray days, until I started putting her to bed waaaay earlier, and we're having them again now with new teeth. Good luck!
