Would you ever let your Dad watch you give birth?

something my dad said in the hospital right after i gave birth is still making me chuckle, in that, "are you KIDDING me???" sort of way.

so in short, my dad said, "well i think it's *ridiculous* that the grandparents aren't allowed in the room while the baby is being born". and i said, "excuse me??"

so he says, "well yeah, the grandparents have a right to be there and see their grandchild born, it's just not right that they make us sit in a waiting room". so i informed dear old dad, "it is MY choice to not have the grandparents in the room, or anyone else besides my husband and my midwife!"

why on EARTH would my DAD expect to watch me push a baby out of my crotch???? oh and he was dead serious too.

ETA: i wanted to add, i do NOT have a good relationship with my dad. he won't even drive two hours to my house to visit me or his grandchildren. he also doesn't *allow* my mom to come and visit, so the only time we see them is when we drive to them. i wanted to say to him, "you won't even come and visit me at my house, and you expect me to share this AMAZING and personal moment with you???" yeah right.

Um, no. But that's more about my personal history than anything: I'm not fond of my father and no way in hell would I let him be at my birth. Even if we got along great, I'm still not the kind of person to invite the entire family into the delivery room, so it wouldn't happen anyway.

I do have a friend that had her dad in her delivery room. She said it was no big deal.

My dad was in the room when I gave birth to DS #1 , he was up at my head and did not see all the stuff but was their I was ok with it and wanted him their. DS came early and I needed my parents their . My Dad is the calm one of my 2 parents.

No way. Dad, you watched me be born, you had your turn.

Maybe include him in another way? Like helping with the first bath?

No. . .I'm not the type to make a big affair out of it. I wanted it to be intimate and calm.

if i can have my xh's new wife watch me deliver then i can handle my dad watching
my dad was there for my first baby, hated it at the time but was 16 and felt defenseless, now, its fine by me

My dad was there when I had DD along with hubby and my best friend. I thought it was no big deal. My mom probably would have fainted if she was there He was by my head the whole time, not down there looking. He was also in the room with my brothers wife when their DS was born. Everyone has their own comfort levels when it comes to things like this. To us it was perfectly ok.

IMO - I wouldn't let my dad see my son being born, because he is not a part of my life...but I am not against our parents seeing the birth of their grandchildren.
