Did you allow your LO to have cake on their 1st B-day?

Just wondering how many of you did. I'm leaning in that direction, but I will definitely make it myself. Anyone have a good, sugar-free recipe?

I think you shouldn't worry about it- dd hated it- she wouldn't even eat one bite. I don't know any babe who actually eats any of it, maybe just a lick or two.

My son has very little to no sugar & I let him have a piece of cake on his 1st & 2nd b-days. I see nothing wrong with occasional treats like that. My son has never has candy or pop & he's over 2 now. He's not a big sweets eater & didn't finish his piece of cake on both b-days... maybe they get used to it?
If you're only looking for no sugar recipes, I think they have no sugar carrot cakes out there.

We gave DS a cupcake and everyone else had cookie cake. We got him a cupcake so he could still have the "cake on face" experience.

I didn't give DD#1 any on her first birthday, she ate a whole piece in her second. DD#2 probably won't get any on her first birthday, especially since I haven't given her any solids yet.

Yes, but they didn't eat much. It's more for the tradition, memory, photo-op, etc.

No. My MIL got a wal-mart one... all sugar and food coloring, no thanks. He had pumpkin bread, and everyone else at the walmart cake. I didn't have either. I only eat chocolate. lol. ETA: I'm not bothered by sugar in general, DS is 20 months now and eats any and everything in moderation. But at 12 months, all that icing and especially the food coloring bothered me. Even now, I'm not sure I'd do that, I'd let him eat then inner cake, but scrape of most of the icing.

We don't vaccinate, we kept our sons intact, we use cloth diapers, we co-sleep, we extended RF, we breastfeed, but we watch too much tv and I totally dig plastic! Everyone has their issues, lol.

dd had a small piece...it was my regular chocolate cake recipe, sugar and all.
She loved it.

I don't fill her with sugar, but I don't avoid it either. We eat lots of healthy foods, her favorite is broccoli, but we also have the occasional treat.

Oh you betcha!!!
(someone needs to start a thread to show pics of our babies eating cake on their first birthday )

I had a friend make a special "baby cake" just for 'Lijah. We stipped him down to his diap and put him in the highchair...and let him go at it. Some of the cutest pics ever!!!!
