A funny thing happened at the library...

DS & I were at the library for a book sale they had, and he was only being mildly good. He wasn't making any noise, but he kept trying to play hide & seek with the furniture, tried to play with a VERY shy little 2 year old (he wouldn't leave the poor kid alone!), he kept smiling at & flirting with the other library patrons... you get the picture. Very rambunctious. Short of a time out, which would result in crying that was NOT appropriate for the library, I had tried everything I could to keep him in line.

As I was finishing up at the front desk, he went running towards the metal detector/book detector things by the front door (10 or 15 feet away from me). I decided to let him play just so I could finish paying & get us out of there.

Then - like in a scene straight from a movie - a lady who was probably in her late 30's comes walking to the front door, which is clear glass. I keep an eye on DS, assuming she sees him & just making sure that he doesn't run out the door. At the last second as she opens the door & walks through, he hides beside the door, JUMPS out in front of her in a *crouching* stance, and YELLS "Daaaahhhhhggggg" in this loud, gravel-y little boy voice. The poor lady jumped a mile high!! She'd had no clue he was there! I was mortified, but I was also trying so hard not to laugh, because he couldn't have timed it any more perfectly!!

He's never seen anyone do that before & he's never done that before! I ran over & apologized like crazy. Luckily the lady started laughing as soon as she got over her shock & told me how cute he was. And of course the librarian gave me a VERY disapproving look.

Ahhh, what fun..... (ha!)

LMBO. That is too funny. I think I would have laughed too.

Too bad the librarian had NO sense of humor.

Sounds like us at the library!! DS LOVES the library, so he really likes exploring and going a little nuts. And our librarian is the same way...she came over to me and chewed me out because DS was running around without shoes on. lleyes2: They were new shoes, they were squeaking really loud AND they hurt his feet, so I took them off. Good grief.

I absolutely love our library! All the librarians there adore our ds. They have watched him grow since he was a newborn. I think they get a little upset with me when I don't bring him in!

Too cute with your son surprising the lady walking in! I laughed so hard! It was a good thing she took it all in stride.

When I was very pregnant with this last LO, my 2 yr old decided to take off her flip flops and hide them at the library during storytime. I could not find them at all and she "didn't remember" where she put them - so we had to walk out with no shoes on her. It's a good thing our librarian knows us. I put them on the lookout and they had them waiting the next time we went in.

I don't think that is in the job description

Wish I could've seen that!
