nursing necklace options

I'll admit it right now that I'm hung up on appearances

But DD is at the age where she grabs and claws while nursing so I'd like a necklace but I really want something nice...something that doesn't look cheap or gawdy (spelling?)

Do I need to buy a necklace specific for nurslings? Are they made "safer" than just wearing a regular necklace?

Is there an option besides a necklace that worked for you?

Re: nursing necklace options

I own a jewelry design business and from what I can tell all of those ugly necklaces aren't made any safer than the normal necklaces that I make. The only difference I've seen is that they're REALLY long.

P.S. I can't deal with wearing the ugly ones either so I just made myself a really long necklace that looks like something I'd actually wear! LOL

I actually just went out and bought what is supposed to be a belly chain. But I double it and put it around my neck, and it has a piece that hangs down...works perfect as a nursing necklace, as I wear an ankh that DS was bound and determined to pull off, and I'd die if anything ever happened to it.

Holly Lane makes nursing necklaces that are REALLY strong & very beautiful. the "chain" is actually a stainless steel cable stran cased in nylon & all the exposed metal parts are sterling silver.

Re: nursing necklace options

I had a Holly Lane necklace that I loved, but the thing shattered when my DS dropped it on our tile floor.. Most HL necklaces are made with glass beads.

I have a Little Gems necklace that has a cotton cord and a teardrop shaped "pendant" with semiprecious stones.. Here is a good link to find them...

www.earthybabes.com

I like the LG necklace so much better because the length of the cord is adjustable and my DS has really put it through its paces and it still looks fabulous!!!

I do think, though, that there is a safety factor, not just in strength of the jewelry, but in all the "hardware" used also..

Just my 2 cents.. Hope that is helpful..

Blessings

Most of the Holly Lane nursing necklaces are made with stone bead/pendants. Only the Madre Peruana pendant is ceramic (glass).

Re: nursing necklace options

I use all sterling silver and gemstones in my jewelry and either very strong cording or beading wire. I just don't see what else they could possibly be doing to make their pieces safer/stronger.

Re: nursing necklace options

Oh ok, good to know... I am not trying to start anything... Just putting in my opinions... Maybe that's the one I had. My friend also had one that was diff from mine and it also shattered in an unrealted incident!!

I guess it just depends on what you are looking for!!! The Holly Lane certainly are lovely!!

As far as the makeup of the necklaces, I don't think that a well-made "non" nursing necklace would be hazardous for your babe at all. I just know what I have read about nursing necklaces and their claims to be "safer"... But I have to agree, presley, a well made necklace is a well made necklace.. I have several other "non" nursing necklaces that my first son teethed away on..

Anyway, there sure are some beautiful beaded ones that I have seen!!

Would love to see some of your designs too presley!!!

Blessings
Karen
