Okay, for all you who read my previous post - I got in today and the tech said I was allowed to refuse to get the dye

Why didn't they tell me that last time!!! I have spent the last week pumping like a mad woman and all I had to do was refuse the dye!

So - I had no dye whatsoever, just the MRI (I believe those are radio waves). Does anybody have a book that they can look up if I an BF immediately or should I pump/dump a time or two?

It's safe to BF right after just an MRI, it's just waves going through your body - nothing stays with you. The question is only with the dye.
I dont have any sources but all the hospitals I googled said ok to BF after an MRI even if they say to dump after the dye.

When I had my CT scan before my appendectomy the CT tech told me I had to pump and dump for 7 days, the surgeon told me 3 days, so I looked it up and it was 48 hours. This was with the dye. I was so mad, I'd been dumping out all that milk for 4 days. I was nursing twins too. Without the dye it's safe to go ahead and nurse.

i nursed my ds after last yrs mri, a few hrs after. if i recall most of it is out of the blood system within 4hrs
decided not to use the contrast this time w/ the nursing newborn though

My ob had me pump and dump for 24 hours after my MRI but she told me it was because of the the contrast I had to drink.

You should be fine to BF after your MRI, it really shouldn't effect YOU or anything... especially if you didn't need the dye! Glad you didn't need it!!!

ABSOLUTELY! It is the contrast. If you didn't have it you are safe to breastfeed immediatly. I had my MRI last spring when DS was 2 month old -believe me I checked into it myself. I'm also a ICU nurse - so I consulted ome educated people at work. Rest easy Mama! The dye is definately not good, but you are abolutely 100% safe breastfeeding your LO

bf right after mri is fine

with the contrast/dye you have to pump and dump for 72 hours afterwards, I refused mine when I had my mri done

Just to add in here: MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging - it is NOT radio waves, but magnets being activated (that's what all the noise is during the MRI). So yeah, the MRI itself is safe, as pp said, not the contrast.
