Why is she nursing soooo much again????

My DD is 16 weeks old. For the last couple months shes been sleeping through the night (8+hours) and during the day shes only been eating every 3-5 hours...depending on the time of day (evenings shes always ate more often to get ready for the long night)

Well NOW shes waking up 3 times a night and eating every 2-3 hours during the day! Shes been sooooooo cranky too! Is this a growth spurt??? Shes never done this before! Its been going on for about a week. Is this normal????? Will it end????

My LO has done that (I think he has had 2-3 since he was born). For him it is a growth spurt - yours sounds the same My milk always catches up in a couple-few days and then it's back to normal.

Could you be eating a new food that is upsetting her tummy? This happened to me and my little guy when I started taking vitamins again. He nursed sooo much and cried and grunted all the time...He also just goes through stages like this every few weeks, so the growth spurt theory might be right on. I would call the ped. though if there are any unusual things going on. I like to cover all my bases just in case. Hope your little babe feels better soon!

Sounds exactly like a growth spurt. At almost 4 months, its typical.

They could last up to 2 weeks. Maddie had her worst one when she was 5 months old. All she did for 6 days was cry, whine, nurse and sleep. Up every hour during the night.

This too shall pass.

We have been going through this for a few weeks now. DS is the same age-range as your LO. I can't wait until this passes. I am sure this is a growth spurt.

Oh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one! My lil guy is 4 months and has been waking up at 2am and again at 4 and 7am to nurse. It's wearing me out, and making me sore!
I made the mistake of brining him to be with me one morning at 2am. He nursed on one side ALL morning while I slept, and I woke up with a huge, hard, breast and one very sore nipple. That was a few days ago and I'm STILL slathering them with lanolin because that nipple is sore and it hurts when he latches on (plus its super dry out here so my skin is pretty sensitive all over). I hope it heals up soon!

If you bring him to bed with you, just make sure to switch him during the night. Or learn to side lie nurse from EITHER breasts without switching sides. Maddie can nurse in bed from either breast without me having to turn her and myself around. I sleep right through the night and rarely wake for her to nurse anymore.

Sounds like a growth spurt to me too. The last one my ds went through lasted over a week!

There is a huge growth spurt at 4 months. I would just feed on demand and your supply will increase. You can always eat some oatmeal to help increase your supply.

Re: Why is she nursing soooo much again????

I could have written this OP! Well, except add a few weeks. He's 4.5mths now & has been getting up in the night 2-3 times to eat (used to sleep 10-12 hrs straight!) I thought growth spurts happened at 3 & 6 mths, so, even though this felt like one, I dismissed it thinking it wasn't possible! I'm glad I'm not the only one!!!
He's also teething (for a few wks now) which isn't helping his sleep!
