Red face Adios shield!

Sam is now offically a month old (as of yesterday)... so I decieded to get brave and try not to use the shield to feed him. I had been using it to correct an inverted nipple and slow down my let down a little... well.. the nipple certainly has corrected.. but I completely forgot how fast my letdown was!! I almost drowned the poor kid! DH came home and said "Wow.. Sam smells like milk..." Yep.. that's because I hosed the poor kid down trying to get him to latch! He cried for a minute because it was different not having the shield... but after that... we achieved breast-feeding zen.. the perfect latch! No bleeding, no crying... just a perfect bond! I just had to share my liberation from the shield!

Awww. Isn't it a great feeling? My DS was like, 2 1/2 months before he could go without the shield. It was wonderful to not need it anymore. I wouldn't NIP or anything because it took so much work to get the shield on, then get him latched and all. What a hassle! But no more. Go momma!

Congrats!!! That is so exciting!

Here are some good vibes for a wonderful, low stress nursing relationship for many months (years?) to come!

Thanks mamas!! Low stress nursing-- whoohooo!!!

That shield was great for when I needed it.. but now that Sam has got pinching (um.. ow) down he would just cop hold of the edges of the shield and make such a mess!!

WOOOHOOO! I remember the day I could stop using the pump and how excited I was. I wanted to shout it from the roof...

Congrats on everything working out! BTW LLL has some great info on how to manage over active letdown if it doesn't adjust in a few days...just go to their site and look it up!

Re: Adios shield!

Congrats! I used one for the first two months with youngest DS (that seems to be the cure-all at the hospital where I delivered because I used one at first with first DS, too), so I know what a relief it is to get rid of it.

YAY! See?? I told you it wouldn't be there forever! Both of my sons were exactly 4 weeks old when we said bye bye to the shield, too. I think it just takes a few weeks for your body to figure out how much milk it needs to make and everyone can learn what to do

I'm so proud of you for sticking it out! WTG Mama!!

Re: Adios shield!

I had the exact same issues: overactive letdown and inverted nipples. The nipple shield helped us so much the first month, but I was sooooooo glad to tell it bye-bye. Nursing has been so much easier since then.

CONGRATS!

Re: Adios shield!

Oh, your post made me teary eyed. My little one is self weaning and we are down to one nursing a day. I remember the days when I would shower Hunter with my milk. Sometimes he'd latch off because he couldn't keep up and it would go a few feet!!! LOL Hugs to you mama

Congrats for sticking in there. I'm sure using the shield wasn't always easy.
