I don't think it's as easy to avoid as you think it is. Nuts and peanut oil is in a lot of things that you wouldn't think of. I've seen so many different foods that have a warning because there could be traces of nuts.
I guess it's all relative. Since my ds2 is actually allergic to them, I am used to checking every food label before I buy it or feed it to him. Compared to eggs or wheat, nuts are easy to avoid. There is more awareness in general about nut allergies--many schools are now nut free & if you tell someone that you/your child is allergic they will generally know other people who are as well. By checking food labels I know that nuts are always listed as allergens but something like eggs/egg whites are not--sometimes they are in the ingredients but not listed as allergens so you have to be very careful. You just have to learn all the names that they can use to list the foods (easily googled), and do a lot of reading while you shop. Also, generic & inexpensive foods are more likely to list trace allergens. I don't really know why, but I always thought that they keep the costs down by just processing everything in one plant so they end up with trace.

Oh I see

On a different note (but same subject) my SIL is pregnant as well and her dr. told her not to eat chocolate because of the caffeine. She's been avoiding it while I've been stuffing my face with it I've been avoiding coffee, but am drawing the line at chocolate!

OMG - NO CHOCOLATE!!! I don't even understand how chocolate could be avoided during pregnancy! I avoid caffeinated drinks, which I figure allows me some chocolate here & there!
