Dylon recipes for a rainbow of color!

Somebody said they are going to Wal-Mart to get the dyes, is this typical for Wal-Mart to carry, how much is the kit and is it safe to do while PG? OH, what is the name of this kit?

I just dyed some of mine last night. No kit, just individual packages in the craft section, pick your colors. My Walmart was out of a lot of colors so I won't get to do as many as I wanted but that's ok, I'll try again later. I didn't even think about it being safe to do while pregnant but I didn't notice any smell or anything. I'm going to try mixing some other colors to see what I can come up with, I found a RIT chart for costume colors online but not a Dylon chart- figured they'd be kind of close.

Well I have been dying for the last 2 days and only have 2 more batches. I made up some of my own colors too, so I will post pics and recipes when they are all done.

going clockwise

Perwinkle (see first post, this is the darkest purple)
Rose (see first post)
Baby Pink (2 tsp pink)
Raspberry (2tsp red, 1/2 tsp pink, 1/2 tsp purple)
Robin's Egg (see first post)
Calm Sea (2 tsp turquoise, 1 tsp blue)
Moss (2 tsp lime, 1/2 tsp blue, 1/2 turquoise)
Lavender (2 tsp purple w/ 1/2 hour dye time)
Plum (well was suppose to be plum 2 tsp purple, 1/2 tsp blue, 3 tsp pink)

and all 18 of them together

fyi, i dyed 2 premium unbleached indian prefolds at a time.

I also did a neon yellow that i didn't like so i re-dyed it the moss color. Here is before it went back into the dye (2 tsp yellow, 1 tsp lime)


I am not really happy with the laveneder, look a little too pale blue, so that might get re-done. But it was so happy to pull them all out of the dryer!

Fabulous! I'm just getting started with this Dylon thing, but I too thought that I was stuck with the colors shown on the packages. Just did some beautiful, vibrant fuschia ones, but I would like to do some pastels, too.

Those are beautiful Melissa! I use a fixer too so maybe that's why mine come out darker...hmmm.... I love the pastels. the moss color will definately be tried out and the really light blue i love too.

Interesting, I didn't even know there was a fixer. I thought it was just different lighting. Plus, I dyed 2 unbleached premiums... Didn't know what you did. But i them And we were having a really bad storm that day and I didn't finish the diapers till it was dark, so my lighting was HORRIBLE I am waiting for the sun to reappear one day so i can get some better pics.
