Re: Who has had pitocin induced labor??
I was augmented. It's more or less the same thing. Labor had stalled at around 3-4 cm and they used pitocin to get things moving again because my water had ruptured before labor. (Same story for 2 out of 3 deliveries.)
It was definitely more painful. You will be attached to an iv. However, I still made it through without any pain meds. With my son, he was born the day two of the spice girls announced they were pregnant by the same guy so I wished them painful labors and called them every name in the book while I contracted. It helped.

Re: Who has had pitocin induced labor??
Hospital birth with midwives. That's the other part that sucks, if I'm induced, they only do inductions at night so it'd be 9pm at night.

Re: Who has had pitocin induced labor??
Sorry, just was wondering if those words were censored or something. I'm a dork, I know!I can't speak from personal experience, but my sister was induced with pitocin with both of her babies and had all-natural med-free births. She's my superhero. Good luck mama, you can do it!

those words are not altered, the posters were trying to prevent the thread from coming up on a search but censoring the words themselves

Re: Who has had pitocin induced labor??
Both of mine were, and both were medically induced. I can't compare to a non-pitocin induced labor though, but I hope it isn't as bad! With dd I had pre-e - labor was 32 hours. Contractions on top of each other - no breaks. It was terrible. I wasn't allowed out of bed to try and relief the pain myself (because of the mag sulfate) - it was awful.
With ds, he had died, so they induced with that. Terrible again. Although the whole mentality of "pain with a purpose" didn't help me get through it, kwim? I SO hope I won't need it this time so I can compare and see if it really is worse for myself!

Oh God, how terrible. So sorry. That is a bit of a different situation I would say.

Re: Who has had pitocin induced labor??
I was induced with DD and it was so much better than when I went into labor naturally with DS !
With DD I asked to be induced because I was miserable, I had toxemia, I was huge and was to the point I couldt get out of bed, I was in labor for 2 weeks but since DD couldnt break my sac I couldnt go into active labor. I weent in at 7a on March 5, they started the PIT at around 9, broke my water around noon and I labored naturally (as much as i could anyways) and it was far less painful than it was with DS. At around 6p I had my Epi and she was born at 9:21 pm March 5th ! With the Epi I could move my legs and could feel when I needed to push yet I couldnt feel the pain. With DS I labored for 30 hrs at home, I screamed, I cried I threw things, I dropped to the floor several times, I laid on the floor with warm packs al over me, then I finally was told to come into the LDR and then labored for another 7 hrs on PIT after they broke my water. I had an Epi and it was so strong I couldnt feel when i needed to push so I had nurses on top of me pushing on my stomach.

Re: Who has had pitocin induced labor??
I've had two pit induced labors. Both natural. But the second it was extremely difficult. The first I was stuck in bed because they refused to let me up. The second I was able to get up for part of it(the other parts I was technically ALLOWED but the baby had a lot of heart rate decels when I wasn't on my left side) and walk the halls but was stuck tied to an iv pole and line which is no fun. They are definitely more painful than spontaneous labor because they speed up the process so the contractions are more painful and closer together. And until they find your perfect flow rate to maintain a steady progress of labor it's hard because they are tinkering with it and you get crappy contractions that don't do much other than hurt or you get hyperstimulated and the contractions are intensely painful and only irritate your uterus and stress your baby. BUT I found with both my pit labors that the recovery time was extremely fast. The bleeding was VERY minimal(probably because they continue the pit for a while after the delivery to contract the uterus) and the pain afterwards seemed so small compared to the intensity of labor. So all in all I guess pit labors aren't horrible but they aren't fun either. But you get that beautiful baby in the end so it's all fine!
