Is it still CIO...

...if I'm holding him? He hates to go to sleep so much and will occasionally scream and cry. So I hold him and rock him until he stops crying (can be several minutes) and falls asleep. I feel so bad letting him cry , but I know that he's over-tired and needs to sleep.

Do other babies get like this? What do you do?

I don't consider it crying it out if you are trying to comfort them..no one can just MAKE them stop crying. I consider CIO when you just leave them to cry alone. Maybe he is getting TOO tired have you tried getting him to bed earlier..or nap a little later so he isn't so tired come bedtime?

That's not CIO, CIO is when you ignore your crying child until they fall asleep on their own. If you are holding and rocking then you are definately not ignoring him, you are there letting him know you are, but he still fusses anyways. You are soothing him and not letting himself wear himself out by crying.

I think we all know the feeling mama, it's absolutely not CIO if you're trying your best to comfort your LO.

Do you feel like you are doing something bad by holding them? Don't worry about labels like CIO or whatever, just do what feels right to you. If holding him feels right, do so! If it doesn't, don't! Each baby is different and there are no rules to parenting!

I want to do what he wants me to do (if that makes any sense) but I don't know what he wants

Aww mama ..... WE have been there done that & I feel your pain!! its definitely not always easy to hear babies cry.

Joshua did that for a long time, he just recently stopped screaming at me while I rocked him. It didn't matter how tired he was, it was like his last burst or frustration of the day. This went on till like 15 months or so. I don't think its CIO unless you leave them alone to self confort.
