I think it's kind of overboard, not something I would ever do anyway.

Re: "meanest mom sells car"

bwahahahahahahahahah! Too cool!!!! What a wonderful relief to see a parent holding up to the rules they set forth! She gave him two rules... no alcohol and keep it locked. Sucks to be the son for breaking the first rule! Better to lose his car THAT SHE BOUGHT FOR HIM at the whopping "tender age" of 19 rather than him buying his own car and getting caught with a container in his vehicle by the police and getting it either impounded or him sent to jail.

Heck, we've done similar stuff with our kids now and the oldest is only 8. They refuse to clean their room, they get one warning. On a Sunday, while the kids and I were at Mass, my DH totally emptied their room! Clothes, books, TV/DVD player, toys, EVERYTHING came out except their beds and dressers. Even hangers for clothes came out! NOTHING was in there. They had to earn their stuff back. One pair of clothing for a clean pair. One properly done chore, done without complaint, done on time, and done to standard earned them one toy or one book back. But they had to wait for a week before all this started coming back to them. Call us mean but they have to learn to respect their stuff and our rules. And we're not waiting until they're 15 to get them to realize we mean business. Break a rule- suffer the consequence and we don't want to hear any complaints about it.

Really???

I'd rather have my kid mad at me for a loooooong time, than to have them have to live w/ the fact that they killed another human being due to driving under the influence. Alcohol is a big problem w/ both my family and DH's, so maybe I'm just a bit more strict w/ things associated w/ it.

WOW.. talk about overboard. I would take the car away for a bit.. but selling it? I dont think I would . But then again .. at 19 .. a man should be out the house and buy his own dang car.
