The dreaded bath time

DS is 5 weeks old as of yesterday and bathtime is AWFUL. He's just one of those kids that hates, hates, hates bathtime. Well.. he hates getting nakie too... so it doesn't really surprise me..

Has anyone else had a similar experience with a young baby hating bathtime? What did you do to survive?? I feel awful because we've only given Sam 4 "offical" baths... but we use cloth wipes with just water on them every night all over, so I do feel as though he's clean enough--but it's more like maintenence rather than deep cleaning. For a "real" bath we use a bath sling in the sink and we've tried a few different washes (just in case he was allergic and that's what was making him mad)... but ugh.. what an ordeal!

Anyone, anyone?

Re: The dreaded bath time

my first dd is like that, she's two and still hasn't outgrown it lol. She just hated being wet!! The only thing I found that helped was making the bath really warm, warmer than they tell you in the hospital (dd hated those baths lol), I make it to a warmth that I"d like in a bath and dd was OK for those, not happy but not screaming during bath time! This baby on the other hand loves bath time! its the only thing that sooths her! lol! so lots of baths over here!

Re: The dreaded bath time

Yep, mine both hated it when they were that little because they hated getting cold! I'd bet that if your house is air conditioned, he is hating getting chilly...I rarely bathed my kids when they were that little. They weren't really dirty - I did what you are doing, just wiped 'em down! What worked better for me was the big yellow sponge thingies in the actual bathtub with about 1-2 inches of water...it stays warm with the water and my kids liked it much better. I have one I can send you FFS if you want it - still in the package, never used. (it doesn't weigh hardly anything, so it would be less than $2 to ship) LMK

Re: The dreaded bath time

I agree about making the bath water warmer than you'd think.

My first daughter HATED bathtime in her tub. But she did enjoy bathing with me, so we just took them together. I think she stayed warmer than way and felt safer.

When she got older, she would tolerate bathing in the sink as long as she could sit up and play with kitchen things like spoons and cups.

Re: The dreaded bath time

Both of my dd's don't like baths as younguns, we just don't do them that often... with DD1 we had a time where she got a bath every night until she stopped screaming about it, and now she likes them

I think my oldest hated baths at first...but you know what...I HATE bathing newborns. They are just so slippery and hard to clean. It does get better! I remember my oldest use to pee in her little bathtub everytime I put her in it. She also pooped in it several times. Little stink!

Re: The dreaded bath time

My dd hates being in the tub alone. DH or I just take a bath with her for now. She also hates to be in the tub if the water is still running, and freaks if I try to use the sprayer.

Re: The dreaded bath time

Im not any help - my dd has loved baths from the first time she had one. To calm her Ive actually given her baths/taken showers with her.
It will probably get better as he gets a lil' bigger

Re: The dreaded bath time

My girls still hates bathing. Abigail is afraid of the tub and Dylan hates water. Kyrra only tolerates it. When they were younger I would wrap them in a towel and place them in the infant bath. I'd wash the bottom half, rinse and then cover and wash the top half. They were quiet and seemed to almost enjoy themselves instead of screaming so loud your ears rang. Good Luck!
