how late are you aloud to go?

So my first baby was induced 9 days early because of complications and was dry as can be, he was very sick and needed icu,

the second came when he wanted at 4 days late....
however according to my dates he was due on the 8th of Jan, and the ultrasound ended up bumping him to the 15th then the 18th and he did not come until the 22nd... that would have made him 14 days late. he was till covered in vernix (sp?)

the third was 9 days late and covered in vernix as well he came when he wanted to.

Now I am pregnant with my 4th and wondering how long over due they will let me go?

I know they push for induction on 10 days, but if I let them know my history of being late and what my babies were like, will the let me go longer?
I do not want to be late, however I really dont want to be induced either.....
I just figure if I am 10 days late.... why not let me go a few more for baby's sake.

whats the latest you can go over? with out too much intervention.

Well, nobody can MAKE you do anything. They can try all kinds of scare tactics, but assuming all your non-stress tests and BPPs (once you are overdue) come back fine, you should feel comfortable declining any induction. Esp. based on your previous kids being late and still having vernix - obviously you just cook 'em longer!

I agree with the pp. I think the only thing can do is "let you go" (as in fire you) and you'll just have to take the on-call doc, whoever that is. But you know your body. My grandmother always had her babies a MONTH late and they were always fine. I think it's best to trust yourself, esp since you know you can have babies successfully.

I agree with PP...or maybe you have longer cycles so you actually ovulate later and your dates are off a week or two? I was having 37 day cycles when I conceived so even though I don't want to be late... I think I could be 7-10 days further on EDD than what my doc. thinks

Re: how late are you aloud to go?

I just had YDD 2 weeks ago at 45 weeks and 4 days gestation according to a dating U/S. It was a fight and I did end up needing a little push to get her out but in the end it was MY choice. They can not MAKE you do anything you don't want to do.

I think most standard OBGYN's talk about induction when you go 5 days overdue. Some let you stretch it to 10.

My Midwife wont do a darn thing until 14 days overdue, and even then, she tries natural induction before scheduling for a drug-induced labor.

At the hospital here they don't like you to go over 41 weeks.

Re: how late are you aloud to go?

I went 42 weeks before my OB even breeched the subject, but he is pretty non-interventionalist as far as OB's go.

Re: how late are you aloud to go?

Well my midwife said she will "let" me go to 41 1/2 weeks before discussing what to do next , which will be either natural induction ( stripping membranes , breaking waters ect ) or repeat c-section because I am going for a VBAC this time . If I make it to that point I will try letting her strip my membranes only , then do some things on my own at home , but I won't let her break my waters or talk anything else till I hit 42 weeks at which I will try for induction before anything .

I do agree with the PP though , as long as you know what's going on and feel comfortable going longer they can't make you be induced .
