Re: stink with fb?

Have you tried RLR?

Do you boil your inserts? I find bleaching them helps but only for a short while. Boiling them really makes a huge difference and sunning them.

We don't vaccinate, we kept our sons intact, we use cloth diapers, we co-sleep, we extended RF, we breastfeed, but we watch too much tv and I totally dig plastic! Everyone has their issues, lol.

Boil them first. Get new water each time you take the boiled ones out.

FB's shouldn't stink as it's pul and thin fleece? kwim?

MF and Hemp are NOTORIOUS for stinking regularly.

My ds's mf inserts in fb's are the EXACT same way. When it stinks I know it's time to boil. 3 at a time for 5+ min, new water, rinse finished ones thoroughly, smell them after rinsing to see if they stink. If they do, do it again.

When your done bleach them. Rinse a couple of times and you're good.

Re: stink with fb?

I had that problem with our small FB's back when we were using them, and I found that it wasn't the inserts, cause they smelled just fine...it was the FB fleece!

I changed up our washing routine a bunch and this ultimately solved the problem altogether, thank goodness! This is what worked for us:

1) Cold soak
2) Cold soak (usually overnite) with some baking soda
3) Hot wash using 8 squirts of Simple Green and 3 Tbsp. washing soda, plus a tiny squirt of Dawn
4) Sometimes I do another rinse cycle if the dipes were especially poopy to begin with, but I usually skip this.

After switching to this, the FB's smelled great HTH!

Re: stink with fb?

FB's ARE notorious for stink issues!! You need to strip your diapers. Wash, wash and rewash in HOT water until you see no suds and then sun to dry. What detergen are you using. Some cause a build-up and this is where the stink arises.

I had the same problem a while back with my DS's FBs. I read a tip that really helped. Cold rinse, then wash in hot with one squirt of blue(original)Dawn dish detergent. I kept rinsing until there were no suds left. That basically stripped them for me. Like the PP, I now wash the dipes with Sportwash and have done so ever since and have no more issues with the stink. My DH was not into the whole CDing thing bc of the stink but now he is that his son doesn't smell like poop every time he pees, LOL! Sportwash is pretty cheap and is found in the hunting and fishing section at Wal Mart! I sometimes use vinegar but have found that also causes a smell in the hemp.
Oh, also when I was having the stink issues, I was soaking the dipes before the initial rinse. I found that that was basically allowing the dipes to soak in poopy water, EWWWWWWWWWWW! even though we dump out all the poop we can before putting the dipe in the dry pail.
HTH!
