I am looking for the best best carseat that keeps my little man in a 5 point harness for as long as possible. The trouble with this is that he is *Tall*. 35.5 inches tall at his 18 month appointment and Dada is 6'4 so he is going to keep growing and likely pretty fast. I made the mistake of getting him a comfortsport for his convertible and that thing (I learned too late) has the shortest harness settings on the market, bleh!
I had heard the britax regent goes until 80 pounds but does it harness for that long? I can't seem to find the info on that anywhere (might just be looking in the wrong place, I dunno). PS please no flames for forward facing the kiddo...I know the risks etc etc.

Re: Best foward facing for TALL toddler?
Not sure on the exact measurements for the regent, this is what we have for ds. He is 44 inches tall, I believe, and 47 lbs (4 yo) and he is only on the 2nd slot height, with PLENTY more room to go. I can take pics of ds in the seat if you would like and show you the harness slots, etc. Just lmk, we've got nothing else going on. I'd say the regent would probably be your best bet if you anticipate your lo growing on the same curve for quite awhile, We have a friend with a radian 65 and her son, almost exactly same height and weight as my ds, is on the top slot in that seat. HTH.

Re: Best foward facing for TALL toddler?
Except, the Regent also has taller harness slots, and depending on if your son's height is in his torso, or in his legs, you may not be able to get the Regent to fit him correctly.
The Sunshine Kids Radian, while the top slots aren't nearly as tall as the Regent, is built more for little guys than the Regent, and should still keep him harnessed for a good while(my 5 1/2yo still rides in the Radian, with room to grow) , especially since his growth will be slowing down now.

Re: Best foward facing for TALL toddler?
Nothing against the Radian at all, it's a great seat, but it can be a pain to install depending on your car. We had one and we were driving an 03 taurus. Traded for a new Chrysler Town and Country van, and could NOT get the Radian in the van with even an acceptable install. It was rock solid in the taurus, moved several inches in any direction in the van. So, we sold it and got a Regent for my now 6 year old, 48 inch, 50 lb. She has plenty of room to go as well. Just for fun, I put my two year old in the Regent. She's a little peanut and not even big enough to ride forward facing yet. She's not quite 32 inches and 21 1/2 lbs. She fit fine...in terms of harness height. So, I'm sure your little guy will fit fine as well, no matter where he carries his height, torso or legs. Plus, we've had the Regent installed in a few different vehicles and I've never had a problem getting it installed rock solid any any of them.

Re: Best foward facing for TALL toddler?
I would get a Regent since it has the highest top slots by far of any seat on the market it would fit your DS the longest. Here are the pics of my DS in the Radian and Regent so you can see the diffrence in size/harness height.

Re: Best foward facing for TALL toddler?
My 8 1/2 year old, 54" DD is just barely too tall for the Regent. Also, the Regent can never be used with just a seatbelt. You only can use it with the 5 point harness.

Re: Best foward facing for TALL toddler?
I would suggest the Regent. Besides the installation issues with the Radian, it is also pretty narrow at the shoulders, and I think alot of kids at 5 or 6 would start to feel kind of cramped. Keep an eye out for the Britax sale next month.
