My wife gave birth 6 months ago in Arlington Hospital. Here are some local resources we found helpful:

The Breastfeeding Center of Greater Washington on K Street in Foggy Bottom: I can't praise them highly enough, good prenatal and post-natal classes and support groups for Mom's. The Lactation consultants can make home visits, at very short notice in the event of an emergency, although they don't take insurance. The shop is run by friendly staff and stocks breastfeeding essentials. Class calendar: http://breastfeedingcenter.org/class-calendar/

List of DC area Mom's clubs http://redtri.com/dc/d-c-s-most-dazz...oms-groups-2/# We found joining our local Mom's group MONA helpful because we have picked up a lot of second-hand baby gear from local families via the marketplace forum.

Momease Doula's - our Doula Ravae Sinclair was great. Also George Washington University Hospital offers full midwifery services, and other parents in our childbirth class had good things to say about them.

Susan Messina childbirth class http://www.susanmessina.com/ - Certified Birth Works educator providing one day and 10 week pre-natal classes out of her home in the Palisades neighborhood. We took the longer class and found it helpful to be able to ask basic questions about childbirth in a small group of other first time Mom and Dad's to be.

DC Urban Moms http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/forums/list.page The forums can be obnoxious because they allow anonymous postings but it can be helpful to do a search for healthcare provider names to read other Mom's experiences with them.

Good luck
