Red face Warning-Stupid Question Alert!

OK, sooo, how do I clean my washer?? Is that stupid?

I mean, do I use regular detergent to clean it, or something else?

I think I have build up in my washer because I washed 2 brand new diapers last night and saw bubbles in the water. There couldn't be build up on new diapers, so I think I need to wash my washer!

How often should I wash my washer?

Someone else might be more help, but I think you just run a hot wash with a little bit of Dawn. And I think, depending on what diapers you have, that brand new diapers MIGHT have buildup, which is why you have to wash them first.

I put 2 capfuls of bleach and run my washer on hot. I have also heard the squirt of dawn to strip your washer. If youuse the Dawn you would probably need to rinse a few times.

Isn't the Charlies soap supposed to help strip the washing machine too?

I follow this and it works good for me, although I do also get a nasty ring around the top of the tub after the first wash/rinse I sometimes need to take a sponge withonly water, no extra soap to buils up again and rub it a little, easier after the stripping and then do the last rinse.

Me too. I've done this once a month since we started using cloth. It's time again. Like you said bubbles are the key to a problem in the second tub where the water goes. The agitation is key to resolving it. I followed the info on the link above and was amazed at how much gunk was in there. Good luck!

Stupider question... how could brand new diapers have buildup?

Depending on the material. For instance with new PF's the cotton has a natural wax coating that need to be stripped off so they will absorb. This is why they fluff up after washing them. I don't know about other fabrics but I know this is the case with PF's.
