my 32w appt today... (vent filled, lol)

well it was much earlier today, but my internet isnt cooperating tongiht!

Baby was measuring 32w, hb was in the 140s (we think he was sleeping)... and my bp was fine... but since i have a slight (and i do be SLIGHT, its enough to annoy me, but not enough to be horrible) cold, everyone kept saying "oh you look so tired"

gee, well the fact that this kid has learned to stuff his foot between my skin and my ribs, and he sticks his butt so far up, i cant breathe and im on my 3rd tye of acid controller, ugh!

And, i have to have another u/s because the midwfie is completely uptight about the fact that ive only gained 4lbs... but the thing is, i started pregnancy overweight as it is! Im 5'4", and i weigh 185 pounds right now, started at 181. No matter what I do, i cant gain... i was even drinking an extra 350cal ensure everyday, and nothing... but my belly is measureing dead on, and he moves like crazy, so i dont see what the big deal is, ya know? I might be at risk of hvaing a small baby considering i was very small (4lbs 7oz) but dh was 7ish pounds, and i dont think JUST size of the baby makes a diff, ya know? Plus, to make sure i wouldnt have more problems, i quit smoking at 5 weeks pregnant... i know i could have a low birthweight baby as it is, considering the family history of small babies and PTL (sis was born at 34w, and they arent sure how early i was), i made sure i wouldnt have something else giving the baby a low weight, ya know? And Its not like im not eating, i am eating... it feels like all i DO is eat!

I could understand being concerned about weight gain if i was underweight to begin with, but i have plenty of padding to support this kid, ya know? plus, im losing weight in my face and it all goes to the tummy... same goes for my hips. Like as SOON as i got pregnant, everything went to my midsection.

So, im just crabby because i have to try to get them to squeeze me in between now and monday, since she wants to see me tuesday and have the u/s stuff already! so i cant make the appt until tomorrow, that leaves me thursday, friday and monday to get the u/s... how convenient, ya know?

Today was my 32 week appointment as well. Measurements are right on track, but my BP was slightly elevated d/t stress going on in my life at the moment. Fortunately, I managed to gain 2.5lbs in the last two weeks, bringing my total gain to 8.5lbs. I'm 5'3 and weighed 210-ish before becoming pregnant. I was a preemie (3lbs 2oz) and DH was in the 7lb range so just like you, we have no idea what to expect in terms of size for our little one.

I hope you are able to get your u/s scheduled quickly and without any big problems!

I wouldn't worry too much about your weight. You have gained some and the baby is healthy then thats good.

I was overweight when I got pregnant with my ds and in the end, I gained a total of 2-3lbs of my own. My doctor gave me a leeway of 11lbs to gain.

I am overweight and have only gained half a pound this pregnancy. I figure it balances out for the 100lb weight gained that I gained with ds! As long as baby is healthy and growing on schedule.. I wouldn't worry about it. They told me my first baby would be 'maybe' 5lbs.. 6 if I was lucky. Well she weighted 7lbs. 13ozs! I only weighted 112 at 8 months pregnant. {I was very skinny to begin with}.

Anyway.. as long as you aren't starving yourself on purpose.. there shouldn't be any reason to keep on you about gaining weight. The baby will get what it needs and it sounds like he is. I know that our baby already weights over a pound and I just turned 22 weeks. So half a pound gained didn't seem to halt him gaining at all. {I had/have severe m/s}.


I sometimes think that these obs just HAVE to find something to upset you about. I dread doctor appointments anymore and it is really sad because this should be such a happy time for all of us!


I hope after the u/s that they stay off of your back. You are doing great!

I think im just irritated because a midwife should know that not all women gain weight along the "normal" scale, ya know? everyone i know with OBs havent had problems if they arent gaining, so why is my midwife being such a pain? lol..

im really not worried about it, just annoyed at her bugging me, since 2 weeks ago she said she'd leave me alone about it!

I have never gained more than 10 lbs with my pregnancies. I am on the very small side and I try with all my might to gain weight it just doesn't happen. My babies are all on the small side with my biggest being 6 lbs 9 oz at 34 weeks. I think if the baby is growing and healthy that it is all you should worry about. Good Luck!

I think it's AWESOME that you've controlled your weight!!! 5'4" and 185 is pretty big- and it's great for your body that "you" are losing and the "baby" is gaining!!! I have gained about 25 lbs- started at 150 and now 175 and I'm 5'6" and I HATE that I can't slow down! You're body will be so much healthier! I say way to go- who cares what they say!

I am nearly 20 weeks and have yet to gain a pound, in fact, I've lost a pound. lol
My belly is sticking out though and the baby seems to be doing just fine. I gained very little weight with my boys too and they were in the 6lb range. My girls were both larger, 7 & 8 pounds. I think I gained around 25lbs with them.
Every pregnancy is different. Sounds like your doing fine

This whole "every woman must gain between 25-35lbs" thing is just ridiculous, IMO. I also don't gain much during pregnancy (and I'm not overweight) - with my first I gained 14lbs (8lb 5oz baby) and w/ my second I gained 12lbs (7lb12oz baby). The fact that you are overweight to start with (as you said), it seems like a 4lb gain would be plenty! And honestly, I don't understand the logic of gaininig fat just to meet some magic number! Can you refuse the u/s without compromising your relationship w/ your MW? Because if everything else looks fine, I don't have any idea what on earth the u/s is going to tell you. I think many OBs and CNMs just want to be in control all.the.time. and "medicalizing" a healthy pregnancy makes them feel useful, KWIM? I loved that my OB & midwife understood that this is a natural process that every woman does differently, and don't expect me to fit into some narrow window of pregnancy!

My mom only gained 7lbs when she was pregnant with me. I weighed a bit over 7lbs. I was born perfectly healthy.
