DH just got a pretty good job offer in Mobile, AL working at a shipyard. Can anyone tell me about the area, etc?

What is the cost of living like? Tell me what the areas we are that we should stay away from. We are on a limited budget for our house, but we don't want to end up in a scary neighborhood.

I am in AL but just recently......(am from FL).I don't know alot about it. Things are pretty high here but I honestly couldn't tell you if they are any worse or better than anywhere else. I just don't know....LOL

I am, but I live in B'ham. I know around here for a nice house you are looking at 140-150 for a three bedroom home. I have no idea about Mobile though.

I can't really help much with Mobile, but we're about an hour away in Florida - right near Pensacola.

i will be moving there in dec, my mom lives there now!! i love it there, my moms house was around 200 , but she got it built for her, and it is in a nice housing place... you can PM me if you want to know more, i dont know much but i can ask my mom!
