Nutritious cinnamon rolls?

I see lots of cinn roll threads, but none with whole wheat. Is it doable? Too heavy? Too much of a pain to make from scratch? I used a box roll mix yesterday and ate SEVEN of them by noon today -- gotta make it more healthy if I'm going to do that!

Here in Alberta we can get a flour made from barley, which is healthier then wheat flour, more fiber and lowers cholesterol. If you make your cinnamon rolls with yeast, you can replace 1/4 of the regular flour with Barley if you can find it.
Also, really load up on the cinnamon, it helps regulate your blood sugar

OMG- I'm so with you. I can eat a whole pan of cinnamon rolls in a day. They are sooooo good. A whole wheat version would probably be really tasty!!! Anyone have a recipe?

Re: Nutritious cinnamon rolls?

My mom made whole wheat cinnamon rolls when I was little. I was just looking at her bread recipe last night for the wheat/white flour mixture. It was 2/3 white flour 1/3 wheat. They were always great! You can always throw in some flax seed meal too for some extra fiber and omega-3.

Re: Nutritious cinnamon rolls?

OK I wouldn't go so far as to say these are healthy by any means but I have used WW roll and it works just fine.

Here is a really easy cheaters version, SOOOO GOOD
Land of Nod Cinnamon Buns
20 frozen bun dough rolls(unbaked)
1C brown sugar
1/4C instant vanilla/butterscotch pudding powder
1-2TBSP cinnamon
3/4C Rasins
1/4-1/2c butter or marg melted
Before you put the cat out for the night and get ready for bed.
Grease a 10" bundt pan and add rolls (don't use more will overflow). Sprinkle with sugar pudding, cinnamon and rasins, pour butter over all. cover with a damp cloth and let sit over night. When you rise in the morn, before you do your morning routine, uncover and pop in the oven, bake @ 350 for 25 min. When you are done you have nice warm sticky buns, now aren't you clever?
