cabled baby hats

I have the LTK Braided Cap pattern and just knit it up for the third time. The mama I know is having a girl and wants something washable, so I did it up in TLC Essentials acrylic. This is the second time I did it with that brand and both times you could see the decrease line. It's not so noticeable when I do the pattern in Simply Soft. Good to know, though...that TLC Essentials isn't great for cabling... The other (the gender neutral, khaki color) is a free pattern from the web for my own son.

I'll share with you what an experienced knitter once told me: "Cables are the farce of the knitting world."

Try them---you will not believe how incredibly easy they are. Seriously. They look at least 200% harder than they are.

Ooh, those are darling! I may have to try cables now, too; thanks for sharing the pattern link!

I agree! Definitely nothing to be worried about.

Thanks, ladies!

They look great!

Cables really aren't that hard, I have an almost finished pair of Fetching on the needles for when I need a break from the straight knitting of longies. It's my first cable project and while the yarn I'm knitting doesn't make the greatest cables, they're still easier than I thought! I'm using a spare DPN, is it easier to use a cable needle?

IMO, no. It's just as easy to use a DPN. Check out cabling without a needle, though.

Re: cabled baby hats

I just tried my first cabling project as well, and I was surprised at how easy it was! All this time I've been avoiding it....
